Shakin’ Stevens has charted 33 Top 40 hit singles including four UK Singles Number Ones ” This Ole House “, ” Green Door “, ” Oh Julie “, and ” Merry Christmas Everyone ” in the United Kingdom alone. His Christmas song ” Merry Christmas Everyone “, released on the 25th of November 1985, has re-entered the Singles Chart in the UK every December since 2007 because of downloads which, as of 2005, have been included in the main UK Singles Chart.
” A Love Worth Waiting For ” was written by Stuart Leathwood and Gary Sulsh. As a team they wrote eight tracks for Shakin’ Stevens, in addition to this one they were ” You Shake Me Up “, ” If You’re Gonna Cry “, ” Forever You “, ” Yes I Do “, ” Too Too Much “, ” I Might ” and ” Calling You “.
Stuart Leathwood was an English singer-songwriter, who in the 1960s played the guitar and sung vocals for an English beat group from Liverpool, The Koobas. In addition to his singing and songwriting, Stuart was also a talented cartoonist and wrote fiction. He died on the 31st of January 2004.
Gary Sulsh is an English singer-songwriter. He has been with Shakin’ Stevens since 1984. Gary has also worked with many other artists including The New Seekers and Olivia Newton-John. He is also a professional Jingle Writer.
Production for the single was by Richard Hewson and Shakin’ Stevens. Richard is an English producer, arranger, conductor and multi-instrumentalist. He created The RAH Band, which took the initials from his name, Richard Anthony Hewson. Richard was the sole member of the band and in the late 70s had his first hit with ” The Crunch “, an instrumental which reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart.
As an arranger, and has worked with a variety of artists like The Beatles, James Taylor, Diana Ross, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Leo Sayer and Paul McCartney. As a producer, he has worked with Toyah Willcox, Five Star, and Shakin’ Stevens. He was co-producer and conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra on Dressed for the Occasion, Cliff Richard’s 1983 live Album.
” A Love Worth Waiting For ” was released in 1984 by record label Epic ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and taken as the fourth single from his 1983 Album The Bop Won’t Stop. The Album was a move away from the usual Shaky style towards a more contemporary pop sound.
It entered the UK Albums Chart on the 26th of November 1983 and peaked at number 21. It was not as successful as his previous three Albums. In 1984 The Bop Won’t Stop was to become Shaky’s first Album to be released on compact disc.
The accompanying music video took two days to shoot. It was filmed on location at Farnham and Chiddingfold, Surrey, England, and featured Shaky’s son, Jason, playing Shaky as a child.
” A Love Worth Waiting For ” was a commercial success for Shakin’ Stevens. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 24th of March 1984 and reached a peak of number 2. The song spent five weeks in the top ten and a total of 10 weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland and Austria.
