The song was written by Nik Kershaw, the English singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Described by Elton John as ” the best songwriter of a generation “, Nik had eight singles that entered the UK’s Top 40 charts during the 1980s.
Production for the single was by Nik Kershaw and David Kreuger, the Swedish songwriter and producer. He co-wrote and co-produced the second of Westlife’s fourteen UK Number One’s, ” If I Let You Go “.

The Album, released on the 26th of October 2002, was produced by well-known and successful producers, Steve Mac, Jewels & Stone, Mike Peden and Cathy Dennis.
There were Four singles released along with this one which were ” Unchained Melody “, ” Suspicious Minds ” and the Album’s title track, ” What My Heart Wants to Say “. In the United Kingdom, That My Heart Wants to Say went on to be certified double Platinum with sales of over 600,000 copies and reached a peak of number 2 on the UK Albums Chart.
” Anyone Of Us (Stupid Mistake) ” was a commercial success for Gareth. In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 20th of July 2002 and peaked at Number One, which it held for 3 weeks. It spent 6 weeks in the top ten and a total of 16 weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Germany,Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
