Their debut Album, Happy Nation ( also known as The Sign ) is one of the best-selling debut Albums ever. In the United States it was certified 9x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ). Happy Nation was the first debut Album to produce three Number One’s on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Chart, ” All That She Wants “, ” The Sign ” and ” Don’t Turn Around “.
Malin ” Linn ” Berggren left the group for good in 2007 and Jenny Berggren departed in November 2009. In 2009, Jonas and Ulf recruited Clara Hagman and Julia Williamson as replacement vocalists, who both left the group in in 2012.
Jenny Berggren put an end to speculation of the group reforming by saying in July 2016 ” We won’t re-form. We’re finished working together but we’re not finished being family together. We have a lot of fun plans in the future but no musical plans “.
” Beautiful Life ” was written by Jonas Berggren and John Ballard, the Scottish Singer/Songwriter and record producer, based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Along with producing three Albums for Ace Of Base, John wrote and recorded the title track for the European release of the blockbuster film, Ice Age. He has also written songs for David Hasslehoff and Bubbles, who were a successful a Swedish pop girl group.
The song was produced by Jonas Berggren, Denniz Pop ( Dag Krister “ Dagge ” Volle ) and Max Martin. Denniz was a Swedish DJ, music producer and songwriter. During an interview he explained how he got his professional name, he said took the name “ Denniz ” from a comic book and then added “ pop ” to it. During his career, Denniz wrote and produced for a variety of successful Swedish and non Swedish artists, like Ace of Base, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N’Sync, E-Type, Robyn and 5ive. He died of stomach cancer at the age of 35 in August 1998.
Max Martin ( Karl Martin Sandberg ) has written or co-written over 20 Billboard Hot 100 Chart Number One’s with a majority of the songs being produced or co-produced by Max. He won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award in 2016, the sixth consecutive year he has won the award. It made it his ninth overall.
” Beautiful Life ” was released on the 20th of October 1995 by record label Mega Records ( Edel-Mega Records ) and taken as the first single in North America and the second single in Europe from their second Album, The Bridge.
The Album, compiled in 1994 and 1995, was released in October 1995. It is the only Album by the group to feature writing, production, vocals and harmonies by all four members, each member of the group playing an important part in the Album’s creation.
In the United States The Bridge is certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ). The Worldwide sales for the Album is over 7 Million, no where near the 25 million for their previous Album.
” Beautiful Life ” was written when their single ” The Sign ” had reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, in which it spent six non-consecutive weeks at the top. The success of the single inspired Jonas Berggren to write the song, he was in the Canary Islands at the time.
The accompanying music video was directed by Richard Heslop, the British music video and film director. In addition to directing, Richard is also a cameraman, writer, editor and artist. He has worked on music videos for many artists artists including Queen, The Cure, Erasure, The Shamen, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and New Order.
” Beautiful Life ” was a commercial success for Ace Of Base. In the United States the song reached a peak of number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, spending 20 weeks on the chart there. It also reached number 10 on the Top 40 Mainstream Chart, number 18 on the Rhythmic Top 40 and Number One on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 27th of January 1996 and reached number 15. It spent 3 weeks in the top twenty and a total of 6 weeks on the UK chart.
