Description: ” Beyond the Invisible ” is by Enigma, the German music project started in 1990 by Michael Cretu. Michael is a Romanian-German producer and musician. The song was written by Michael Cretu ( who also produced the track ) and David Fairstein ( Fabrice Guitad ).
David worked on the ground-breaking single ” Sadeness (Part I) ” with Michael and helped turn the initial idea of Michael’s into a Worldwide smash hit, he also worked on Enigma’s first Album MCMXC a.D., which went on to sell over 4 Million copies in the United States, the Album spent some 282 weeks on the Billboard 200 Chart.
” Beyond the Invisible ” was released on the 21st of October, 1996 and taken as the first single from the third Enigma Album ” Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! “. The French titled Album ( ” The King Is Dead, Long Live The King! “) was nominated for a Grammy in 1998 for Best New Age Album.
The song features opening vocals by Michael Cretu’s then wife Sandra, she was a popular mainstream artist and had many hits in the 1980s and early part of the 90s throughout Europe. Sandra also spent time as the lead singer with the all female group Arabesque, who enjoyed popularity in both Japan and Russia.
Michael Cretu provided lead vocals on the song, also featuring on the track is a sample of Latvian folk song Sajaja Bramani (“Nobleman Rode Together”), performed by folk ensemble Rasa. The track also uses the now familiar Gregorian chant (Isaiah 64:9-11), taken from Pierre Kaelin’s “Gregoriani Cantus “.
The accompanying music video was directed by Julien Temple ( Julien Andrew Temple ), the English film, documentary and music video director. He directed The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle ( the 1980 British mockumentary about the British punk band Sex Pistols ) and Absolute Beginners ( which featured the late David Bowie and singer Sade ).
The video was filmed in Savernake Forest, Marlborough, Wiltshire, in the United Kingdom. The ice rink was built especially for the shoot and took over a week to freeze. The ice skaters featured are Susanna Rahkamo and Petri Kokko, the Finnish award-winning ice dance couple.
” Beyond the Invisible ” was a commercial success for Enigma. In the United States the song reached number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and spent 3 weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the chart on the 25th of January 1997 and reached a peak of number 26. It spent a total of 2 weeks on the UK chart.
