Billie Jean Michael Jackson

” Billie Jean ” is by Michael Jackson, the American singer. Written by Michael Jackson and produced by both Michael and Quincy Jones, the American record producer.
The song was taken as the second single from Michael’s sixth solo album, Thriller, released in 1982. The lyrics to the song have caused speculation as to the real meaning over the years.
Some claim they are taken from a real-life experience in which Michael or one of his brothers had fathered a child of a fan. This accusation was dismissed by Michael as he pointed out at the time the lyrics for ” Billie Jean ” were actually about groupies he’d met over the years.
The video that was made for the song is widely considered to have made MTV, which at the time a small unknown music channel. The video for ” Billie Jean ” was one of the first by a black artist to be regularly shown on the MTV network.
In the beginning, MTV refused to air the video, the president of Michael’s record label threatened to pull all videos from the station and go public about their refusal to play music by a black artist.
They complied and played the video for ” Billie Jean “, and the video went on to capture the imagination of the public. Sales of the album, Thriller, increased by 10 million as a result.
The album, Thriller, was released in December 1982 and gained both critical praise and sales. In the following January ” Billie Jean ” was released as the second single from the album.
In the United States, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and climbed to the top where it stayed for seven weeks. After the run at Number One, the song slipped down to number five where it remained inside the Top Ten for eleven weeks.
Michael also found success with ” Billie Jean ” in the United Kingdom. There the song reached the Number One spot for one week and spent seven weeks inside the Top Ten. In total, the song spent Thirty-three weeks on the chart.
Along with a chart-topping single in the UK, Michael also held the Number One on the album chart with Thriller in the same week. This feat was achieved in the United States at the same time, something very few acts have managed to do.
” Billie Jean ” was to end 1983 as being the third best-selling single in the United States and the ninth in the United Kingdom.
