” Blow ” is by Kesha ( Kesha Rose Sebert ), the American singer, songwriter and rapper. The song was written by Kesha Sebert, Klas Åhlund, Lukasz Gottwald, Allan Grigg, Benjamin Levin and Max Martin.
Production for the single was by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Kool Kojak.
The electropop dance song was released as the second single in February 2011 by the RCA record label and taken from Kesha’s first EP, Cannibal, from 2010.
The song is a party anthem, and Kesha lays out her message that she wants to have a good time at a club.
Music critics gave mostly positive reviews to ” Blow “, AOL Radio’s Scott Shetler called the delivery by Kesha was ” both sassy and brash. ”
Writing a review for Cannibal, Slant Magazine’s Sal Cinquemani called the song a “stuttery club track .”, however, Digital Spy’s Robert Copsey commented that the song has a similar feel to the 2002 hit single ” Satisfaction ” by Benny Benassi.
The video that accompanies the song was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero; it was his idea for the concept of the unicorns wearing tuxedos.
The video opens with a disclaimer that ” No mythological creatures were harmed in the making of this video ” before showing Kesha talking to two unicorns about how she was elected to Uzbekistan’s parliament.
The video features James Van Der Beek; the American actor is better known for Dawson Leery in the WB series Dawson’s Creek.
” Blow ” was initially offered for download from the iTunes store as part of a promotion for the EP. In the United States, the song finally entered the Billboard Hot 100 and climbed to reach a peak of number seven and spent twenty-six weeks on the chart.
Outside of the United States, Kesha scored her only Number One with the song, in Israel ” Blow ” reached the top of the Media Forest airplay chart.
Kesha reached the Top Ten in Belgium ( both Flanders and Wallonia ), New Zealand and Slovakia, in Canada she reached number twelve on the Canadian Hot 100 Chart.
In the United Kingdom, ” Blow ” reached a peak position of number thirty-two, the song stayed in the Top Forty for two weeks and a total of nine weeks on the UK chart.
