” Blurred Lines ” is by Robin Thicke. The song was written by Robin and produced by Pharrell Williams, the American producer and rapper.
The song features Robin Thicke, T.I. along with Pharrell Williams and is taken from the album of the same name.
Released as the lead single from the album in 2012, ” Blurred Lines ” was a commercial success with number one spots in over twenty-five countries worldwide.
Along with global success, the song became the longest-running Number One in the United States during 2013, along with this achievement ” Blurred Lines ” has become one of the biggest selling singles of all time with estimated sales of 14.8 million. Another record to be broken by the song is to have the biggest radio audience in history.
In addition to a US Number One, ” Blurred Lines ” also reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Canada and New Zealand.
An alternative version was released for the Latin American market. This version featured the Colombian rapper, J Balvin. It reached number seven on the Columbian Charts after airplay on Spanish-language radio stations.
However not was quite as rosy for Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams. The similarities between ” Blurred Lines ” and a Marvin Gaye track called ” Got To Give It Up ” started a bitter legal battle.
A legal copyright infringement case was launched by the family of the singer and Bridgeport Music. In March 2015, a Federal jury found Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams ( but not T.I. ) liable for infringement of copyright.
Damages for copyright infringement amounting to $7.4 million US dollars were awarded unanimously by the jury. Both Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams launched an appeal.
Despite the legal problems ” Blurred Lines ” was nominated for two Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
