Another record to be broken by the song is to have the largest radio audience in history .
In addition to a US number one, ” Blurred lines ” also reached number one in the UK, Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Canada and New Zealand.
An alternative version was released for the Latin American market, this version featured the Colombian rapper J Balvin. This version reached number 7 on the Columbian Charts after air play on Spanish-language radio stations.
However not was quite as rosy for Robin Thicke and T.I. and Pharrell Williams, as similarities between ” Blurred lines ” and a Marvin Gaye track called “Got to give it Up” started a bitter legal battle.
A legal copyright infringement case was launched by the family of Gaye and Bridgeport Music, in March 2015 a federal jury found Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams but not T.I. liable for infringement of copyright.
Damages for copyright infringement amounting to $7.4 Million US dollars were awarded unanimously by the jury, now both Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have launched an appeal.
Despite the legal problems ” Blurred lines ” was nominated for two Grammy’s for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
