” Boys ” is by Britney Spears ( Britney Jean Spears ), the American singer, dancer and actress. Britney was born on the 2nd of December 1981 in McComb, a city in Pike County, Mississippi.
She grew up in Kentwood, a rural town in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. Known as ” The Dairy Capital of the South “, it is situated near the Mississippi border. As a child, Britney sang in a Baptist church choir and at the age of three began dance lessons. She later attended gymnastics and voice lessons, going on to win numerous competitions and children’s talent shows at state-level.
Her first professional role was the understudy for the lead role of Tina Denmark in the Ruthless!. The all-female musical spoofed Broadway musicals, like Gypsy and Mame, along with movies like The Bad Seed and All About Eve. It premiered Off-Broadway in 1992 and closed January 1993 after 342 performances.
In 1992, Britney, along with Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell, was cast in The Mickey Mouse Club, which was cancelled in 1996. She went on to perform in stage productions and television before signing with Jive Records in 1997.

” Boys ” was written and produced by Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams, also known as The Neptunes. They are estimated to be worth in the region of $160 million and are considered one of the most successful producers in the history of popular music.
During the late 1990s and 2000s, The Neptunes wrote and produced twenty-four Billboard Hot 100 Chart Top Ten hits. In 2009, Billboard magazine ranked the duo Number One on their list of the Top Ten producers of the 2000s. In a poll conducted by Vibe, the American R&B and hip hop music and entertainment magazine, readers named The Neptunes as the third greatest hip-hop producers of all time, just behind Dr. Dre and DJ Premier.
The song was released on the 29th of July 2002 by record label Jive Records ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and featured on Britney’s third studio Album, Britney. The Album, released on the 6th of November 2001, moved away from her earlier teen pop.
Music critics gave mixed reviews, some calling it a coming of age Album, some criticising the production. Despite the lukewarm reception from critics, Britney reached Number One on the Billboard 200 Chart in the United States and topped the charts in Austria, Canada, Germany, Israel and Switzerland. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number four on the UK Albums Chart.
” Boys ” is an R&B and hip-hop song, with influences of funk. It was first recorded by Janet Jackson before it was given to Britney. Her official site stated that the song contained aspects of 70s soul music and influences of music by Prince.
The accompanying music video was directed by David Meyers, the American music video, commercial and film director. David was born on the 19th of October 1972 in Berkeley, California. The city, named after George Berkeley an 18th-century Anglo-Irish bishop and philosopher, is located on the east shore of the San Francisco Bay.
David first became interested in film when at the age of 17, he started working his local cinema. Since then he has worked with many top recording artists including Def Leppard, P!nk, Hanson, Kid Rock and NSYNC. In addition to music videos, David has directed commercials for many top brand names like Citibank, Foot Locker, Reebok, ITV and a women’s fragrance called Curious by Britney Spears, which is marketed by Elizabeth Arden.
” Boys ” was a commercial success for Britney outside of the United States. There the song reached a peak of number twenty-two on the US Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Chart and number thirty-two on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart, it didn’t break into the Hot 100.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 10th of August 2002 and reached a peak of number seven. It spent one week in the Top Ten and a total of eight weeks on the UK chart.
