Bret Sears is a pop and EDM ( electronic dance music ) artist from Baltimore, Maryland, United States. His interest in singing and dancing began at a young age. Bret would set up a stage in his bedroom to perfect his performing.
His music is inspired by a range of singers and record producers including Diplo, Calvin Harris, Dr. Luke and Max Martin. As a lyricist, Bret writes from the heart with his compositions taking inspiration from different musical genres which are infused with emotion through the use of different beats and patterns, a style that connects with the listener.
Explaining his writing style, Bret said ” I think the biggest thing that I want to do is be experimental. I think it’s important to have people that you can feel comfortable with and come out your comfort zone – be experimental with – because that’s how the best songs are made. ”
Bret Sears studied at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree. He also has a masters degree from Full Sail University and is currently studying for a masters degree in marketing management at the University of Maryland University College. His honours and awards are many; they include High School Valedictorian, Steve Harvey’s Disney’s Dreamers Academy National Winner, Ben Carson Scholar and National member of American Marketing Association, President of Collegiate Chapter.
Through his writing skill and production technique, Bret is continuously pushing the boundaries of his creativity. He takes songs from artists like Pharrell Williams, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake, breaks them down and studies them, helping to improve his writing.
Early in his career, Bret Worked with award-winning producer Nate Lanzino at SongBuilder Studios, located just outside Baltimore. His music benefited from their expert production. Nate helped Bret to create tracks that, although had a 90s dance feel, were more in keeping with more modern electronic pop.
In April 2017, Bret Sears teamed up with Latvian record Producer Raivis Ordway to form Casual Encounter. The Tropical house duo released their debut single, ” Keep On Fighting ” on the 9th of August 2017. The single, featured on their debut album of the same name, was written by Bret and produced by Raivis.
Bret Sears is currently recording and releasing music as a solo artist and is continuing to work alongside Raivis Ordway on the Casual Encounter project; more tracks are expected to be released in 2018.
Bret was asked by simplypopmusic to pick one of the songs that meant the most to him; he chose ” Spiritual Love “, recorded at his home studio, the song about self-confidence and empowerment.
ret explained the reason for picking the single ” it’s about freeing yourself from doubt, insecurity. The song is new and shows how I have grown in confidence. ”
