Song Title: Candy

Artist: Mandy Moore

Date of release: August 17, 1999

Description: ” Candy ” is by Mandy Moore the American singer. The song is taken from her first Album ” So real ” in 1999. Written by Denise Rich, Dave Katz and Denny Kleiman with production by Jive Jones, Tony Battaglia and Shaun Fisher.
A classic pop style of the 1990’s and early 2000’s the song was released by the record label Epic Records. Record labels at the time were cashing in on the teeny pop music which was becoming more popular the World over at the time.
When ” Candy ” was released as a single the performance didn’t set the World alight, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 88 and climbed to reach number 41, just shy of the top 40.
The song is the most successful of Mandy’s to date, Worldwide she was to fare better reaching number 6 on the United Kingdom charts and reaching number 2 in Australia.
The reception by critics for ” Candy ” was mixed, with some reserving actual judgement of the lyrics and composition by pointing out that she was ” just 15 years old ” which was a kind of justification for the teeny pop style.
All agreed that the song fitted the demographics in which it was intended for by the record company.
Chris Robinson, the American film director gave the song life with the video. The video opens with shots of a typical US neighborhood and a gradual zoom in to Mandy’s bedroom, her friends are outside and call her where they proceed to a diner. There she looks at the boy she saw skateboarding, at the end of the video Mandy and her dancers are shown in an empty pool with skateboarders all around them.
throughout 1999 and 2000 Mandy promoted ” Candy ” on several tv shows including TRL, the Rosie O’Donnell Show and Top of the Pops.
