The song was released on the 1st of December 2010 as a digital download by record labels Parlophone ( Warner Music Group ) and Capitol ( Universal Music Group ), as a stand-alone release, the song doesn’t feature on any Album released around that time.
The accompanying music video was directed by Mat Whitecross, the British music and documentary film director. Along with working with Coldplay, Mat has directed music videos for many artists including The Rolling Stones, Take That and Jay-Z.
He has directed many feature films on a wide range of subjects, his first, co-directed with fellow Brit Michael Winterbottom, was The Road to Guantanamo, which won the award for Best Director at the Berlin Film Festival in 2006.
The video features one hundred fans of the band. Also making an appearance are three violin-playing Elvises. They are played by Simon Pegg, the British actor, Phil Harvey, who is known as the fifth member of Coldplay and Tim Crompton, a friend of the band.
Written across the top of the stage is ” Credo Elvem Etiam Vivere “, Latin for ” I Believe Elvis Yet Lives “. There is some likelihood the Latin phrase is a reference to the three Elvises that appear in the video.
