Description: ” Clouds ” is by Zach Sobiech ( Zachary David ” Zach ” Sobiech ), who was an American folk rock singer-songwriter. Zach was born and raised in Stillwater, Minnesota, in the United States. The city is one of the state’s oldest towns after being founded by settlers. On March the 4th 1854, Stillwater was officially incorporated as a city.
At the age of 14, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type bone cancer which often affects children. Zach began writing after the diagnosis. According to US broadcasting network CBS, he endured ten surgeries and 20 rounds of chemotherapy as part of his treatment.
” Clouds ” was written by Zach Sobiech with production for the single by Karl Demer. Karl was educated at the Northern Arizona University and is a game audio instructor and president of Atomic K Records & Productions.
The song was released digitally on the 14th of December 2012 by record label Rock the Cause and was later to feature on Zach’s debut EP, Fix Me Up. The EP, released on the 15th of February 2013, was released under A Firm Handshake, Zach’s band.
The group was formed by Zach with his friends Samantha ” Sammy ” Brown and Reed Redmond before his death. The Album entered the chart in the United States, reaching number 20 on the Billboard 200 Chart. It also reached number 9 on the US Digital Chart, 27 on the US Heatseekers Chart, four on the US Indie Chart and six on the US Indie Rock Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the Album reached number 121 on the UK Album Chart and 24 on the UK Indie Chart. It also reached number 22 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart.
The accompanying music video was released on Youtube in December 2012 and has been viewed 13,310,876 times as of August 2017. There are a few music videos for this song on Youtube; one features celebrities along with Zach’s family and friends lip-synching to the song. The video ends with Grammy award winning American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz saying ” Thank you, Zach. You’ve written a great song, dude. It’s a real pleasure to sing it and sing it with you. Thank you. ”
Another video tribute to Zach was filmed on the 5th of December 2013 at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, United States. There a choir or 5,000 people gathered to sing ” Clouds “. The event was a collaboration between several charities, the KS95 Kids Radiothon, Children’s Cancer Research Fund and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare.
” Clouds ” was a commercial success for Zach. In the United States, the song reached a peak of number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and spent two weeks on the chart there. It also reached number 3 on the Hot Rock Songs Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 1st of June 2013 and reached a peak of number 50. It spent one week on the UK chart. It also reached number 8 on the UK Indie Chart.
The song also charted in Belgium, Canada, France and Switzerland.
” Clouds ” was to be Zach Sobiech’s only single. He passed away at his home on the 20th of May 2013 due to complications from cancer. It was seventeen days after his 18th birthday.
