” Crybaby ” is by Paloma Faith ( Paloma Faith Blomfield ), the award-winning English singer, songwriter and actress. Paloma was born on the 21st of July 1981 in Hackney, a London Borough in Inner London, United Kingdom.
According to The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Place Names, the first surviving records of the name Hackney are Hakney in 1231 and Hakeneye in 1242 and 1294.
She went to the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, where she studied for a degree in contemporary dance. Later Paloma went on to attend the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design; there she studied for an MA in theatre directing.
Paloma’s debut single, ” Stone Cold Sober “, released on the 15th of June 2009, had mixed reviews from critics. The single reached number seventeen on the UK Singles Chart, also charting in Australia, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, Scotland and Switzerland.
Her debut album, Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?, was released on the 28th of September 2009. The album had a mixed response from critics. Peaking at number nine on the UK Albums Chart, Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful? has spent 106 weeks on there. On the 1st of March 2013, the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) announced the album was certified 2x Platinum with sales of over 600,000 copies.
Paloma has released four studio albums, eighteen singles and has featured on five charity singles, including the 2014 Band-Aid 30 ” Do They Know It’s Christmas? “, which topped the UK Singles Chart for one week.
Along with many awards throughout her career, she won Best British Female Solo Artist at the 2015 Brit Awards and had had four other nominations.
” Crybaby ” was written by Lindy Robbins, Paloma Faith, Fin Dow-Smith and Cleo Tighe. Production for the single was by Starsmith, the British multi-Platinum selling songwriter, producer, remixer and DJ.
Starsmith ( Finlay Dow-Smith ) was born on the 8th of July 1988 in Bromley, a district of south-east London England. Formally a market town chartered since 1158, it is situated within the ancient parish in the county of Kent. Bromely is the birthplace of H.G.Wells, famous for his works of science fiction, including The War of the Worlds, published in 1898.
Starsmith is best known for his work with artists like Jess Glynne, Kylie Minogue, Clean Bandit and Ellie Goulding, who he worked with producing most of her debut album, Lights. The album reached number twenty-one on the Billboard 200 Chart in the United States and topped the UK Albums Chart in the United Kindom for one week.
” Crybaby ” was released on the 31st of August 2017 by record label RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and is taken as the lead single from Paloma’s fourth studio album, The Architect.
The album, released on the 17th of November 2017, debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart, with sales of over 40,000 copies. The Architect, which received mostly good reviews, is the first UK chart-topper of the Albums released to date.
During an interview, Paloma explained the what the song is about, saying ” The lyrics are a conversation between a man and I, and the song questions whether global conflicts would cease to exist if men successfully dealt with their feelings. Would things be resolved without attack and with measured discussion? ”
The accompanying music video was directed by Thomas James, the London based video director, illustrator and designer. Educated at the University of the Arts London, he graduated with a First Class BA Honours in Graphic Design Communication.
He has won two awards, UKMVA ( UK music video awards ) Best Rock / Indie Video Newcomer and British Art & Design Graduate of the Year. Along with Paloma Faith, Thomas has worked with Hurts, Honeyblood, Sara Hartman and Oh Wonder.
” Crybaby ” has been a commercial success for Paloma. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 14th of September 2017 and reached a peak of number thirty-six. It spent one week in the Top Forty and to date has spent twelve weeks on the UK chart.
It has also charted in Belgium, Croatia and Scotland.
