D.I.S.C.O Ottawan

” D.I.S.C.O ” is by Ottawan, the pop music duo fronted by Frenchman Jean Baptiste Patrick and Annette. The pair was put together by French record producers Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger.
Their name comes from Ottawa, the capital city of Canada ( which sits on the south bank of the Ottawa River ), it is said that Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger came up with the name on their way back from Canada.
The song was written and produced by Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger. Daniel is a French songwriter and producer, he co-wrote and produced many hit records during the 1970s which included ” Cuba ” by the Gibson Brothers and ” Aie a Mwana ” which was first recorded as ” Aieaoa ” for the 1971 album, Le Monde Fabuleux Des Yamasuki.
In 1975 ” Aie a Mwana ” was changed to ” A.I.E. ( A Mwana ) ” and released with mostly Swahili lyrics by Black Blood. Later Bananarama, the 80s successful UK girl group, recorded a version as a demo of ” Aie a Mwana ” which became an underground hit.
Daniel Vangarde is the father of Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter and is credited with helping the duo in the early days of their career.

” D.I.S.C.O ” was released in 1979 by French record label Carrere ( it was closed down in June 1988 ) and taken from Ottawan’s album of the same name.
The song’s title comes from the lyrics of the chorus with each letter standing for a quality of the woman, D for delirious, I for incredible, S is superficial and C stands for complicated. The letter O is not a quality of the woman but used as the ” Oh-Oh-Oh ” in the chorus.
” D.I.S.C.O ” was a commercial success for Ottawan. The song reached Number One in both the Netherlands and Norway.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 13th of September 1980 and reached a peak of number two. It spent seven weeks in the Top Ten and a total of eighteen weeks on the UK chart.
