Daddy Cool Boney M

” Daddy Cool ” is by Boney M, the vocal group formed by German record producer, Frank Farian, in 1976. The group was made up of Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell, who died at the age of 61 of heart failure on the 30th of December 2010, in a hotel in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The song was written by Frank Farian and George Reyam. Frank Farian is a German record producer and songwriter. He trained to be a cook before pursuing a career in the music business. Frank is famous as the founder of Boney M and Milli Vanilli, who had their 1990 Grammy Award for Best New Artist withdrawn after he admitted they didn’t sing their songs.
George Reyam ( Hans Jörg Meyer ) is a German songwriter and composer. He has worked extensively with Frank Farian and co-wrote many of Boney M’s biggest hits.
” Daddy Cool ” was released in 1976 by record labels Hansa ( Sony Music Entertainment ), Sire and Atlantic ( both Warner Music Group ) and taken from Boney M’s debut Album, Take the Heat Off Me.
The Album released on the 28th of June 1976, became a prominent seller outside of the United States where it only just missed charting on the Billboard 200 Chart. Along with this song, the Album also featured the hit singles ” Sunny ” and ” Baby Do You Wanna Bump “. The Album reached Number One on both the charts in Sweden and Finland. In the United Kingdom, it reached a peak of number forty on the UK Albums Chart.
” Daddy Cool “, a novelty single by the group, was the second single released after ” Baby Do You Wanna Bump “, featured Frank Farian doing rhythmic tic-tic-tics and playing on his teeth with a pencil.
He was also responsible for the deep male voice heard on the track singing ” She’s crazy like a fool… ” to which group members Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett answer ” …wild about Daddy Cool “. The answer sung back by Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett has often been misheard and thought to be ” …what about it Daddy Cool “, the misinterpretation of the lyric was so much that Boney M even started singing it during live performances.
Once released the single didn’t make any impact on the charts of any country at first. It wasn’t until Boney M were invited on the Musikladen TV show at the request of Michael ‘ Mike ‘ Leckebusch that the song gained traction and topped many European charts.
” Daddy Cool ” was a commercial success for Boney M. In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 18th of December 1976 and reached a peak of number six. It spent four weeks in the Top Ten and a total of twelve weeks on the UK chart.
