The song was written by Teddy Park ( Park Hong-jun ), the Korean-American rapper, songwriter and producer. Teddy Park has become one of the most successful songwriters and producers in Asia.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, he was very young when he moved to the United States with his family. After he finished high school in the United States, he went back to Korea to seek a career in the music industry.
Along with BlackPink, he has worked with Big Bang, the boy band, Lee Hi and Kang Seung-Yoon. Through his ability to write and produce catchy songs, he has become one of the most prolific Korean music producers of the last few years.
” Ddu-Du Ddu-Du ” was produced by 24, Bekuh Boom, Teddy Park and R.Tee.
The song was taken as the lead single from BlackPink’s Square Up, their Korean debut extended play. Released on the 15th of June 2018, Square Up is available in two versions.
The Extended Play digital version features four tracks while the physical EP contains a hidden track, ” As If It’s Your Last “.
Square Up became a successful release for the South Korean girl group. In the United States, the EP peaked at number forty on the 30th of June 2018 and has spent one week on the Billboard 200.
Other Billboard Chart positions were four on the Independent Albums and one on the World Albums charts.
In Japan, it topped the Oricon Digital Albums Chart and also made Number One on the Gaon Albums Chart in South Korea.

The accompanying music video has become the first music video by a K-pop group to make 700 million views on YouTube.
Featuring Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé, it has become the most viewed online video in the first twenty-four hours of release by a Korean act.
It is the second most watched music video ever with over 36.2 million views within the first twenty-four hours. The first day of being uploaded, it overtook ” Gentleman ” by Psy as the most watched but fell behind Taylor Swift’s ” Look What You Made Me Do “.
To date, the music video is standing at number three in the most viewed in a twenty-four-hour time frame after South Korean boy band BTS’ ” Idol ” scored over forty-five million.
” Ddu-Du Ddu-Du ” has become a commercial success for BlackPink. In their native South Korea, the single has topped the Hot 100, Gaon and Gaon International charts.
Outside of South Korea, the song has become a hit. It topped the singles charts in Singapore and Malaysia.
In the United States, the single peaked at number fifty-five on the 30th of June 2018, spending one week on the Billboard Hot 100, it also topped the Billboard World Digital Songs Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK singles chart on the 28th of June 2018 and reached number seventy-eight. It has spent one week in the Top 100.
” Ddu-Du Ddu-Du ” has reached the Top Twenty in China, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand and Thailand.
