” Don’t Let Me Down ” is by The Chainsmokers, the American DJ duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. The song was written by Andrew Taggart, Emily Warren and Scott Harris with production for the single by Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall.
Emily Warren is a New York-born singer-songwriter who is signed to Dr. Luke’s label Prescription Songs. She is best known as a songwriter for artists like Fifth Harmony, Jessie J, Shawn Mendes, 5 Seconds of Summer, Tiësto and Melanie Martinez.
Scott Harris ( Scott Harris Friedman ) is an American songwriter, producer and musician. He has worked with Shawn Mendes, co-writing every song on The Shawn Mendes EP, released in 2014. The EP debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 Chart in the United States.
The song was released on the 5th of February 2016 by record labels Disruptor and Columbia Records ( owned by Sony Music Entertainment ).
” Don’t Let Me Down ” is primarily in the style of Trap music fused with dance-pop. Trap music originated in the first part of the 1990s in the Southern United States; it’s a genre of Hip hop music which is mostly based around a synth, orchestra and string swells with tight, bass-heavy 808 kick drums.
The song features the vocals of Daya ( Grace Martine Tandon ), she is American singer and songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her stage name Daya comes from the Hindi word for compassion or mercy. Her song ” Hide Away ” reached number twenty-three on the Billboard Hot 100.
The accompanying music video was filmed in LA and directed by Marcus Kuhne. It was released to YouTube on the 29th of April, 2016. As of the 1st of October 2016, the video has been viewed over 337,000,000 times.
Music critics had positive things to say about the song. On kurrentmusic.com NORA-TOL wrote that the song ” is as contemporary as it can get. All the latest trends pass you right by, which means there’s a lot of variation in the track and it simply can’t bore you. It’s something that catches your ear right away and pulls you in. ”
Jason Scott of Popdust wrote that the song ” is an enormously engaging strip of gritty dance-club euphoria. Percussion vibrates underneath a well-constructed skyscraper of synth and evocative vocals from the 17-year-old Daya. ”
” Don’t Let Me Down ” was a commercial success for The Chainsmokers. In the United States, the song made its debut on the 27th of February 2016 at number eighty-five on the Billboard Hot 100, but it fell from the chart a week later. On March the 12th, it made a re-entry at number eighty-one, peaking at number three on the 16th of July, 2016.
In the United Kingdom, the single first charted on the 21st of April, 2016 and reached a peak of number two; it spent eleven weeks in the Top Ten and a total of twenty-five weeks on the UK chart.
