Doop Doop

” Doop ” by Doop, a techno group from the Netherlands. The song was written and produced by Peter Garnefski and Frederik Ferry Ridderhof.
The song was the first single from the duo’s debut album, Circus Doop, which was released by various record labels including MCA Records in the United States and City Beat in the United Kingdom.
” Doop ” is a Techno dance remix of the Charleston dance. Initially, the dance craze was written by American Jazz pianist and composer James P. Johnson in the 1920s.
The song was the first instrumental in reaching the top spot in the United Kingdom for twenty years. The producers of ” Doop ” realised similarities between Jazz music from the 1920s and House music from the 1990s, so decided to mix them.
Although classed as an instrumental, the song has some vocals added. The title of the track is repeated by flapper girls multiple times throughout the 3.35 minutes.
In doing so, they created the instrumental that was to reach the Number One spot in the United Kingdom and enter the charts in various countries across Europe, along with Australia and the United States.
” Doop ” was to be the second single with the artist of the same name as the song’s title to become a Number One in the United Kingdom. The song ” Mr Blobby ” by Mr Blobby was the first to achieve this.
Despite a certain amount of ridicule from critics, ” Doop ” was a favourite song in the clubs at the time. In the United States, it reached number two on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart.
In the United Kingdom ” Doop ” reached Number One on the UK Singles Chart and held the top spot for three weeks, it spent six weeks inside the Top Ten. In total ” Doop ” spent thirteen weeks on the UK Chart.
The song was certified Gold in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ) on April 1st, 1994 with sales of 400,000.
