” Fight Song ” is by Rachel Platten ( Rachel Ashley Platten ) the American singer and songwriter.
Rachel’s musical style of country-pop has been compared to top pop stars like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson. The powerful, self-affirmation, midtempo anthemic pop song, was written by Rachel Platten and Dave Bassett.
The song was released by record label Columbia Records on the 19th of February 2015 and taken as the lead single from Rachel’s third album, Wildfire, which was to be her first album release with a major record label.
Rachel worked on an early version of the song as early as 2013, she wrote it with her friend and co-writer Dave Bassett in a studio in Malibu.
A year and a half later she was happy with the result, Rachel commented in an interview ” I wrote about five or six different verses, and four different bridges. ”
The song was inspired by her actual experiences, Rachel explained ” ‘ Fight Song ‘ was inspired by a lot of experiences that were hurting me and that were making me feel like maybe I didn’t have a chance in this industry. I wrote it because I needed to remind myself that I believed in myself. No matter what, I still was gonna make music, even if it was on a small-scale. Even if it was just for me. ”
During that time she learned a lot, not just about herself, she even taught herself how to use the music production software, Pro Tools, so that Rachel could get the sound exactly the way she wanted.
In a Facebook post to her fans Rachel said ” To every single person that’s ever believed in me, to every mile that I’ve driven across the country, you made this moment that much sweeter. Proud to have just signed to Columbia Records. Time to spread the love. ”
Music critics have given ” Fight Song ” positive reviews. Adam R. Holz wrote on pluggedin.com ” a catchy, melodic anthem that’s virtually impossible not to like ( or approve of ). ”
Marissa Fitzgerald of ppcorn.com wrote ” Overall, I believe that “Fight Song” is an incredible track, and I highly recommend it to all fans of pop music. It’s highly relatable lyrics, and incredible melodies will draw you in and force you to put it on repeat for days. ”
” Fight Song ” was to be a commercial success for Rachel. First charting in Australia on April the 12th, 2015 at number thirty-five, it climbed and peaked at number two.
After being covered by The X Factor NZ Top 12 contestants as a charity song with the backing of the fast food chain McDonald’s, the song reached number eight in New Zealand. All the proceeds from the sales went to Ronald McDonald House Charities NZ, which helps families of seriously ill or injured children.
In the United States, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number eighty, making it Rachel’s first entry on the chart. The song climbed to reach a peak of number six and spent a total of eighteen weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom, ” Fight Song ” entered the UK Singles Chart at number sixty-eight and climbed to reach Number One, spending one week at the top. The single spent five weeks in the Top Ten and a total of thirty-three weeks on the chart.
