The song became a commercial success for Irene. In the United States the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1983 and peaked at Number One where it stayed for 6 weeks. The song stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for a total of 25 weeks.
In the United Kingdom, ” Flashdance… What a feeling ” entered the UK chart on the 4th of June 1983 and reached a peak of number 2. The song spent 7 weeks in the top ten and a total of 14 weeks on the UK chart.
The song was Number One in many countries including, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain.
In addition to the song becoming a Worldwide hit, Irene and co-writers also won an Oscar in 1983 for Best Original Song, a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
