Song Title: From This Moment On
Artist: Shania Twain
Date of release: 14th of March 1998
Description: ” From This Moment On ” is by Shania Twain ( born Eilleen Regina Edwards ), the Canadian singer and songwriter. The song was written by Shania Twain. Additional songwriting and production was by Robert John “Mutt” Lange.
The South African record producer and songwriter has worked with a variety of artists including AC/DC, Def Leppard, Michael Bolton, Bryan Adams, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Nickelback and Muse. Robert co-wrote the Bryan Adams 1991 mega hit single ” (Everything I Do) I Do It for You ” which has the record for the longest unbroken run at number one in the UK.
” From This Moment On ” was released on the 14th of March 1998 by record label Mercury Nashville ( Universal Music Group ) and taken as the fourth single from Shania’s third Album Come On Over, which is the best-selling in country music and the 6th best-selling Album in the US. Worldwide sales for the Album exceed 40 Million.
Once the track had been finished they thought of singer Celine Dion but Shania and Robert agreed that it would be better as a duet. Although both agreed that Elton John should perform the duet with Shania, they instead chose Bryan White.
Bryan White ( Bryan Shelton White ) has had success as a country singer with 17 singles entering the Billboard Country Charts, six of them taking the top slot. His single ” So Much for Pretending ” being the most successful with a two-week stint at the top of the chart.
The song was written during a soccer game in Italy. Shania explained in an interview how the song came about ” We were in Italy at a soccer game. My husband loves sports. I don’t know the game that well, so my mind drifted and I started writing “.
First pressings of the song in March 1998 featured Shania Twain and Bryan White singing ” From This Moment On ” as a duet, later recordings had Shania singing the song solo. The reason for the later solo performance by Shania is because executives at the record label Mercury Nashville were told that Bryan wouldn’t be able to promote the song with Shania, so she went back into the studio and recorded the song as a solo.
A spokesman at Asylum Records ( label Bryan was signed to ) said ” We’ve certainly heard knocking on our door about [ the song ] being too contemporary for Bryan’s sake. So it’s fine if they want to go to top 40 without him “.
In a statement later released by Bryan he said he had no hard feelings towards Shania for his exclusion from the international version, saying ” They’re releasing this song as a pop record, and I’m not a pop artist, so my feelings aren’t hurt “.
The accompanying music video was filmed in New York City and directed by Paul Boyd. The Scottish director also worked with Shania on the video for ” Forever And For Always ” and ” Man! I Feel Like A Woman “. He has also worked with Lionel Richie, Simply Red, Lenny Kravitz, Kylie Minogue and Sting.
” From This Moment On ” was a commercial success for Shania. In the United States the song reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent a total of 40 weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK chart on the 28th of November 1998 and reached number 9. It spent 1 week in the top ten and a total of 9 weeks on the UK chart.
