” Get Ready for This ” is by 2Unlimited, the Dutch dance music duo. Consisting of rapper Ray Slijngaard and vocalist Anita Doth, they were formed in 1991 by Belgian producers Jean-Paul DeCoster and Phil Wilde.
Although the duo has been mocked in the music press since their debut, 2Unlimited has gone on to sell eighteen million records globally.
” Get Ready for This ” was released in September 1991 under the record labels Bye, ZYX and PWL in the United Kingdom.
The single was written by Ray Slijngaard, Jean-Paul DeCoster and Phil Wilde, who also acted as producers.
Originally titled ” Orchestral Mix “, the single was intended to be released as an instrumental. Ray Slijngaard was then asked by producers Jean-Paul DeCoster and Phil Wilde to write lyrics for the track and add rapping. He also suggested that Anita Doth join the project as a vocalist.
In the United Kingdom, an edited version of the original ” Orchestral Mix ” was released. For the edit the line ” Y’all ready for this? ” was added. I was sampled from the song ” It’s Funky Enough ” by The D.O.C, the American rapper, songwriter and producer.
” Get Ready for This ” was taken from 2Unlimited’s debut studio album, Get Ready!
The album, released on the 24th of February 1992, featured fifteen tracks on the European version and fourteen for the UK, tUS and Canadian release. It has been certified Gold in Australia and the United States, where it sold over half a million copies.
The Get Ready! album peaked at 197 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. In the United Kingdom, the album entered the UK Albums Chart on the 7th of March 1992 and reached number thirty-seven. It spent one week in the Top Forty and three weeks in the Top 100.
The album reached the Top Twenty in Australia, Netherlands and Canada. In Sweden, it peaked at twenty-seven and eighty-five in Japan.
The accompanying music video was directed by David Betteridge, the award-winning British music, documentaries and commercials director.
In addition to his work with 2Unlimited, he has worked with a variety of recording artists including Opus III, Bitty McLean and Soul II Soul. He has also worked with the BBC and well-known brands like Virgin, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony.
” Get Ready for This ” became a commercial success for 2Unlimited. In the United States, the single peaked at number thirty-eight on the 8th of April 1995 and spent thirty-four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Singles Chart on the 5th of October 1991 and reached number two. It spent seven weeks in the Top Ten and fifteen weeks in the Top 100.
The single also peaked inside the Top Ten in Australia, Canada, Belgium ( Flanders ), Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.
