Description: ” Give me everything ” is by Pitbull ( Armando Christian Pérez ), the American rapper. The song was written and performed by Armando Pérez, Nick van de Wall and Shaffer Smith.
Production for the single was by Afrojack ( Nick van de Wall ), the Dutch DJ, record producer and remixer. He has co-produced music with artists like Madonna, Mike Brown and David Guetta.
” Give me everything ” was released on the 21st of March 2011 by record labels Polo Grounds, J Records and Mr. 305. The song was taken as the second single from Pitbull’s sixth Album ” Planet Pit “.
Ne-Yo ( Shaffer Chimere Smith ), the American R&B singer also provides vocals on the song. He has written songs for artists including Anastacia, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston.
The hook to the song is provided by Ne-Yo along with Nayer ( Nayer Regalado ). The Latin pop singer has also worked with Lil Wayne and Usher.
According to whosampled.com, ” Give me everything ” samples ” I got a story to tell ” by The Notorious B.I.G which was taken from his Album ” Life after death “, released in 2009 by Bad Boy Records.
The song’s lyrics make references to Eastman Kodak, the photography and technology company founded by George Eastman in 1888. Pitbull also mentions Macy’s ( originally R. H. Macy & Co ), the World famous department store which was founded by Rowland Hussey Macy around 1858 in New York, US. Also mentioned in the lyrics are Ryan Seacrest ( American Idol host ) and Lindsay Lohan.
Mentioning Lindsay Lohan, the American actress, in the song gave Pitball the biggest headache. Unhappy with the use of her name in the song and the line ” I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan “, she launched a lawsuit against Pitbull, Afrojack, Ne-Yo and the record labels.
Lindsay claimed the line was ” disparaging and defamatory ” under New York’s Civil Rights Law. However the New York federal judge threw out the claim. The ruling was that ” Give me everything ” was a work of art and was protected under the First Amendment.
” Give me everything ” received mixed reviews, a review on commonsensemedia.org praised the song saying ” Pitbull’s Latin-infused rhyming is a refreshing departure from the typical rap sound; juxtaposed against Ne-Yo’s lofty singing style, the combination does a good job of keeping you listening for what comes next “.
A review of the song in NME magazine had criticism for Pitbull and the song in general. It said there were too many random components in the structure. The reviewer wrote ” So, how many types of wrong is this? Well, you’ve got your earnest vocal gibbering about living in the moment. You’ve got your cheap rave wibble, a high frequency irritation that buzzes throughout like a fly trapped in jism “.
Although the song had mixed reviews by critics, the song was a commercial success for Pitbull. ” Give me everything ” entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at number 60 and reached Number One, spending a total of 32 weeks on the chart.
The song gave Pitbull, Afrojack and Nayer their first US Number One, it was Ne-Yo’s first Number-One single since he claimed the top slot with ” So sick ” in 2006.
Outside of the United States the song reached Number One in Canada, Belgium, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Romania.
In the United Kingdom, ” Give me everything ” entered the UK chart at number 35 and steadily climbed to reach Number One. The song spent 12 weeks in the top ten and a total of 40 weeks on the UK chart.
