Description: ” Got the Feelin’ ” is by Five ( the name stylised as 5ive ), the English boy band. The band, from London, was formed in 1997 after an advertisement was placed in the British weekly newspaper The Stage. The paper and website cover the entertainment industry, especially the theatre.
The ad asked for young male singers/dancers to audition for a new boy band. After 3,000 hopefuls went through the audition process, Scott Robinson, Ritchie Neville, Sean Conlon, Abz Love and Jason “J” Brown were selected and signed by Simon Cowell.
Their debut single, ” Slam Dunk (Da Funk) ” was released on the 1st of December 1997. It reached a peak of number ten on the UK Singles Chart and number eighty-six on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
Five were hugely successful in the United Kingdom and worldwide. According to the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ), they achieved sales of over 2.4 million singles and 1.6 million Albums in the UK Alone, with some 20 million Albums sold worldwide.
The original line-up disbanded on the 27th of September 2001. Today Five continues to tour as a three-piece, with Sean Conlon, Scott Robinson and Ritchie Neville from the original band.
” Got the Feelin’ ” was written by Richard Stannard, Five and Julian Gallagher. Richard “Biff” Frederick Stannard is a British songwriter and producer. He was the executive producer of Walthamstow, the British chart-topping boy band East 17 debut Album, released in 1992. He has worked with many artists including Atomic Kitten, Joe McElderry, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix and Kylie Minogue.
Julian Gallagher is a British songwriter, musician and record producer. Julian grew up with music; his father is part of the duo Gallagher and Lyle. He is an accomplished musician, playing Bass, rhythm and lead guitar, keyboards and drums. As a producer, he has worked with Kylie, Gabrielle, Mel B, Emma Bunton, East 17, Samantha Fox, Boyzone and the Spice Girls.
The song was produced by Denniz Pop and Jake Schulze. Denniz was a Swedish DJ, music producer and songwriter. During an interview he explained how he got his professional name, he said took the name “ Denniz ” from a comic book and then added “ pop ” to it. During his career, Denniz wrote and produced for a variety of successful Swedish and non-Swedish artists, like Ace of Base, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N’Sync, E-Type, Robyn and 5ive. He died of stomach cancer at the age of 35 in August 1998.
Jake Schulze ( also known as Jacob ) is a Swedish Music Producer, Composer and Songwriter. He has worked with artists like Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, September and Westlife. He is involved in the Denniz Pop Awards. The Awards, founded in 2013, was set up with the goal of helping new songwriters, producers and artists continue the legacy Denniz Pop once started.
” Got the Feelin’ ” was released on the 3rd of June 1998 by record labels BMG ( Bertelsmann Music Group ) and RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and taken as the third single from the band’s self-titled debut studio Album, Five.
The Album, released on the 22nd of June 1998, reached the top of the UK Albums Chart, becoming their only Album to do so in the country. On the 14th of July 1998, it was released in the United States, where it reached number twenty-seven on the Billboard 200 Chart, making it their most successful Album in the US.
The accompanying music video was directed by Max & Dania, the professional name of Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini. They are signed to Luti Media, the award-winning commercials, TV and music video production company based in London and Los Angeles. They have worked with Simon Webbe, The Wanted, Girls Aloud, Craig David, Sophie Ellis Bextor and Busted.
” Got the Feelin’ ” was a commercial success for Five. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 20th of June 1998 and reached a peak of number three. It spent three weeks in the top ten and a total of thirteen weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in the top ten in Australia, Belgium ( Flanders ), Finland, Ireland, Netherlands and New Zealand.
