Habits ( Stay High ) Tove Lo

” Habits ( Stay High ) ” is by Tove Lo ( Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson ), the Swedish singer. The song was written by Tove Lo, Ludvig Söderberg and Jakob Jerlström.
The song was produced by The Struts, which is the production name of Ludvig Söderberg and Jakob Jerlström and not the rock band from Derby in the United Kingdom.
The song is taken as the lead single from Tove Lo’s first album, Queen of the Clouds, released in 2014.
Originally the song was self-released by her using the title ” Habits ” back in 2013, once she’d signed to the record label Universal Music the song was re-released with a new title now known as ” Habits ( Stay High ) “.
The song was written with verses taken from a poem Tove Lo had penned when she was going through a particularly bad time in a relationship.
After the break up she descended into drugs and drank to hide the pain of the failed relationship.
Interviewed by Refinery29, Tove Lo said about the song ” ‘Habits’ is the part where we’re broken up and I’m trying to get on with my life – maybe is not the healthiest way. ”
The song divided music critics with Billboard’s Harley Brown commenting ” one of the most easily identifiable pop songs I’ve heard in recent memory “.
However other critics were less easily pleased, Jeremy D. Larson also from Billboard called the message the song sends out as ” false ” as ” staying high does not keep anyone off your mind “.
Despite mixed reactions from the music critics, ” Habits ( Stay High ) ” entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the United States at number sixty-six and climbed to number three.
The single was to become the highest charting single by a Swedish artist on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart since the group Ace of Base reached Number One with ” The Sign ” in 1994.
In Canada, the song entered the Canadian Hot 100 Chart at number eighty-six and moved to reach number three, with downloads of 160,000 Music Canada awarded ” Habits ( Stay High ) ” Double-Platinum status.
In the United Kingdom, Tove Lo had a number six hit with the single, there the song stayed in the Top Ten for four weeks and spent a total of thirty-four weeks on the chart.
