The song is a mix of reggae fusion with elements of R&B thrown in, lyrically Bridgit sings about love, the compromises and the persistence that being in love involves.
In the song Bridgit performs a rap for the first time, she later told Coup de Main Magazine how much she loved recording the rap and how it was experimental and not intended, she said ” we had written the song and I had come in to record it and then the guys were like: “Why don’t we just try rapping this part?”. So I did and then it kind of just worked and we decided to keep it. So not intentional, but sometimes things just happen in the moment “.
Adding the rap to the song seemed to work, generally music critics liked ” Hurricane “, Allmusic’s Tim Sendra gave Bridgit praise for her ” fine singing voice “.
