Description: ” I Can Hear Music ” is by The Beach Boys, the American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961. The original lineup was brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine.
In 1962 their neighbor David Marks joined for their first number of hit singles with Capitol Records. David Marks left in late 1963 with Bruce Johnston joining in 1965 to replace Brian Wilson, Brian had retired from touring with the band to focus more on writing and producing.
The song was originally written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector to be performed by the The Ronettes, a girl group from New York. The trio had 9 songs make the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 5 of which entered the top 40. In 2007, The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Production for the single was beach boy Carl Wilson. In the 1980s, Carl launched a solo career and released two Albums Carl Wilson in 1981 and Young Blood in 1983.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Beach Boys in 1988.
The Beach Boys cover of ” I Can Hear Music ” was released on the 3rd of March 1969 by record label Capitol ( Universal Music Group ) and taken from the group’s 15th Album 20/20. Released in February 1969 the Album reached number 68 on the Billboard Hot 200 Chart and number 3 on the UK Album chart.
Brian Wilson had really lost interest in producing for the group, Brian’s younger brother, Carl, took the helm and became both producer and leader. ” I Can Hear Music ” is widely considered to be Carl’s first real taste of being the lead Beach Boy.
The Beach Boys cover version of the song was a commercial success for the group. In the United States the song reached a peak of number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and spent 10 weeks on the chart there.
In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK chart on the 4th of March 1969 and reached number 10. It spent 1 week in the top ten and a total of 13 weeks on the UK chart.
