” I Hope You Dance ” is by Ronan Keating ( Ronan Patrick John Keating ), the Irish recording artist, singer and musician.
Ronan rose to fame in 1994 as the lead singer of Irish group Boyzone, alongside Keith Duffy, Michael Graham, Shane Lynch and Stephen Gately. As a solo artist, Ronan has sold over 20 million records worldwide in addition to the 25 million records with the group Boyzone.
The country crossover pop song was written by award-winning songwriters Mark Sanders and Tia Sillers. Mark is an American Country Music songwriter. He has written fourteen Number One country hits for artists like Faith Hill, Rhett Akins, George Strait, Lonestar and Trace Adkins. Tia has co-written hits for Dixie Chicks, Pam Tillis, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and George Ducas.
” I Hope You Dance ” was initially by Lee Ann Womack with Sons of the Desert and released on the 3rd of May 2000. Lee Ann’s signature song was a huge hit, reaching the top on both the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts. The song also made the Top Twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, reaching number fourteen.
Ronan’s cover of ” I Hope You Dance ” was released on the 27th of September 2004 by record label Polydor ( Universal Music Group ) and taken as the first single from greatest hits compilation, 10 Years of Hits.
The album, released on the 11th of October 2004, included all of Ronan’s hits to date, three new singles and unreleased tracks. 10 Years of Hits reached Number One on the UK Albums Chart, making it his third out of four albums to reach the top.
Ronan’s version was produced by Steve Mac, the award-winning British musician, songwriter and record producer. He has worked with many artists including Shakira, One Direction, The Wanted, Westlife, Susan Boyle, Il Divo, JLS, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, The Saturdays and James Blunt.
Ronan recorded a new version of ” This Is Your Song ” ( previously a B-side ) which was added to the single. He donated royalties from sales of the single to the organisation Breast Cancer Care. Ronan lost his mother to Breast Cancer in 1998.
” I Hope You Dance ” was a commercial success for Ronan. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 9th of October 2004 and reached a peak of number two. It spent two weeks in the Top Ten and a total of seven weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in Germany, Ireland, Netherlands and Switzerland.
