” I Need You ” is by N-Dubz. The song was written by group members Dappy, Fazer and Tulisa. It was taken as the eighth and main single release from their second album, Against All Odds”.
The MOBO award-winning trio is made up of Dappy ( Costadinos Contostavlos ), Fazer ( Richard Rawson ) and Tulisa ( Tula Paulinea “Tulisa” Contostavlos ).
All three members of N-Dubz are credited with writing ” I Need You “, production for the single was by Dappy and Fraser. The song is in Hip House style with influences from such music as R&B, pop, house and British hip-hop. The production makes use of synthesisers to compliment the rapping done by the members.
The lyrics for the up-tempo party music type song are about infatuation and the disappointment that usually follows such situations. The lyrics mention Facebook which is a more modern slant.
Each member describes their experience with Dappy rapping how he searched Facebook to find the woman he’d met and the frustration of never getting the chance to have the phone number before she’d disappeared.
Tulisa sings about her wearing her “LBD” and “Bang bang shoes” when she left for the ladies washroom at the club only to find her date had gone without leaving his phone number.
The British radio station BBC 1 added ” I Need You ” to the A playlist, this was to be the second single to do so for N-Dubz. With increased airplay in the United Kingdom, the song became a commercial success and the group’s most successful single and the first to reach the Top Ten.
The song entered the Irish Singles Chart at number twenty-two but failed to climb any higher, the following weeks it went into free fall slipping further and further down the charts, in total the song spent four weeks on the Irish charts.
In November 2009, ” I Need You ” entered the UK Singles Chart at number five and again failed to climb any higher. In the United Kingdom the song had strong sales of around 140,000 and became the highest chart entry for the group.
