” I Want U ” is by Alison Wonderland ( Alexandra Sholler ), the Australian EDM recording artist and Producer.
Born in 1986, she grew up in Sydney, Australia. There she trained as a classical musician, with the cello her instrument of choice.
Alison Wonderland became interested in electronic dance music after a visit to a club called Candy’s Apartment in Potts Point, Sydney. Her stage name is based on Alice in Wonderland, the 1865 Lewis Carroll novel.
” I Want U ” was released on the 2nd of May 2014 under the record label EMI. It was written by Alexandra Sholler and Andrew Swanson, the American multi-platinum record producer and songwriter.
He has worked with a variety of recording artists including Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Tinie Tempah, Major Lazer and Sia, who he co-produced ” Elastic Heart ” from the 1000 Forms of Fear album.
Professionally, Andrew Swanson also uses the stage names Djemba Djemba and Magic in the Rain.
” I Want U ” was taken as the lead single from Calm Down, her debut extended play studio album. The EP was released on the 27th of June 2014 under the EMI Music Australia record label.
The AU Review, dated the 4th of August 2014, awarded the EP just short of a full ten commenting that ” Each song transitions perfectly into the next, while still standing on its own terms and giving a new experience each time. ” They concluded that they hoped it ” is a taste of what’s to come from Alison Wonderland. ”
Although not a hit outside of her native Australia, ” I Want U ” has featured in the video games NBA 2K17 and Forza Horizon 3.
It has also featured on the American supernatural horror series The Haunting of Hill House. Shown on the Netflix television network, the horror drama is based on the Shirley Jackson novel of the same name and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The series first aired on the 12th of October 2018.
The single reached number thirty-eight on the ARIA Singles Chart in Australia and spent one week on the chart there.
The Australian Recording Industry Association has certified the single Platinum for sales of 70,000 copies.
