” I Want You Back ” is by Bananarama, the English girl group. The song was released on the 28th of March 1988 under the record label London Records.
” I Want You Back ” was written by Matt Aitken, Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey, Mike Stock, Pete Waterman and Keren Woodward with production by Stock Aitken Waterman.
Originally called ” Reason for Living “, the song had a different chorus, which the band members disliked. Along with Stock Aitken Waterman, they re-wrote the lyrics. Both the original and the rewritten versions were recorded with founding member Siobhan Fahey.
The song was again re-recorded for the 1988 release with new member Jacquie O’Sullivan, who’d replaced Siobhan Fahey after she had left to form Shakespears Sister with Marcella Detroit.
” I Want You Back ” was taken as the fourth and last single to be released from WOW!, Bananarama’s fourth album.
The album was released on the 4th of September 1987 and became the last by the group with the original line-up of Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward.
WOW! topped the albums chart in Australia. It peaked at number twenty-six in the United Kingdom and became their last chart success in the United States, where it reached number forty-four on the Billboard 200.
