Description: ” Jealous Mind ” is by Alvin Stardust ( Bernard William Jewry ), who was an English rock singer and stage actor. He started performing in the 60’s as Shane Fenton and enjoyed a moderately successful career in the pre-Beatles era.
Between 1961-62 he had four singles reach the UK top 40. It was to be the 1970s when Bernard William Jewry would find fame. He has become more widely known as Alvin Stardust and under that stage name achieved 7 UK top ten hits, which also included ” Pretend ” and ” I Feel Like Buddy Holly “. His way of holding the microphone and the black leather clothes helped Alvin to become instantly recognizable with fans.
” Jealous Mind ” was written and produced by Peter Shelley. Peter is a British 1970s pop singer-songwriter who had hit singles in the United Kingdom with ” Gee Baby ” and ” Love Me Love My Dog “, the latter reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in 1975.
He was the original persona of Alvin Stardust, which later was used by Bernard William Jewry. In 1973 Peter co-founded the record label Magnet Records with Michael Levy, which went on to be the label for Alvin Stardust and one of the most successful independent labels of the 1970s.
The song was released on the 16th of February 1974 by record label Magnet Records ( Warner Bros. Records ) and taken from Alvin’s UK number 4 Album The Untouchable, which was released on the 16th of March 1974.
” Jealous Mind ” was a commercial success for Alvin. In the United Kingdom the entered the UK Singles Chart on the 16th of February 1974 and reached Number One, staying at the top for 1 week. It spent 5 weeks in the top ten and a total of 11 weeks on the chart. The single was to be Alvin’s only UK Number One, his previous single ” My Coo-Ca-Choo nearly made it to the top but was kept off by Gary Glitter’s ” I Love You Love Me Love “.
