” Let it Swing ” is by Bobbysocks!, the Norwegian pop duo. The duo, formed in 1983, consisting of Norwegian Hanne Krogh ( Hanne Krogh Sundbø ) and Swedish-Norwegian Elisabeth Andreassen ( Elisabeth Gunilla Andreassen ).
Hanne is a Norwegian singer and actress who recorded her first Album in 1970 at the age of 14 and has become one of the best-selling recording artists in Norwegian history. In addition to her chart success, Hanne has won many awards in her country including many Spellemann ( Norwegian Grammy ) and was awarded the Peer Gynt Prize, which the Norwegian Government award to Norwegians who have done the most to enhance Norway’s reputation around the World.
Elisabeth, also known by the name Bettan, is a Swedish-Norwegian singer. The Swedish musician and TV host Lasse Holm discovered her in 1979, and a year later Elisabeth joined his group Chips, which came eighth place in the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest with ” Dag efter dag ” ( ” Day After Day ” ). Active in a variety of musical genres like country, pop, rock and musicals, she also plays the guitar, piano and contrabass ( the largest and lowest-pitched bowed string instrument found in a modern symphony orchestra ).
” Let it Swing ” or ” La det swinge ” in Norwegian, was written by Rolf Løvland and Alixzandra ( Alexandra Wangberg ), who wrote the English version. The song was produced by Torgny Söderberg and taken from the duo’s debut Album, Bobbysocks!.
The Album, first released in 1984, was updated to a newer version a year later. The re-released Album found popularity in many parts of the world and by early 1986 had sold in the region of 75,000 copies in Norway. In 2012 Bobbysocks! Enjoyed viral popularity when Nigahiga, a famous YouTuber, used ” Don’t Bring Lulu ” in one of his videos. Following that YouTube plays the sales of the Album were estimated to have been over 12,000 in the month that followed.
Lyrically ” Let it Swing ” is about dancing to old rock ‘n’ roll heard on the radio. The lyrics were written in an old-fashioned way; the song features a saxophone melody at the beginning. The song was entered into Melodi Grand Prix 1985 and won, so was chosen to represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1985.
Bobbysocks! won the Eurovision Song Contest which was held on the 4th of May 1985 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The song gave Norway their first victory in the contest after they scored 123 points.
” Let it Swing ” was a commercial success for the duo. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 18th of May 1985 and reached a peak of number forty-four. It spent a total of five weeks on the UK chart. It also charted in Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
