Description: ” Location ” is by Khalid ( Khalid Legend Robinson ), the American singer and songwriter. Khalid was born in Fort Stewart, Georgia on February the 11th 1998. Located along the Canoochee River, Fort Stewart military base is home to nearly 5,000 people and covers 280,000 acres ( 1,100 km2 ).
Khalid’s mother, Linda, is in the military and so he spent much of his childhood in different locations from Fort Campbell in the state of Kentucky to Heidelberg in Germany, where he spent six years. Khalid moved back to the United States settling in El Paso, Texas, the one time home of Fleetwood Mac singer, Stevie Nicks.
It was at this point that Khalid started writing songs. In an interview in February 2017 with Rolling Stone magazine Khalid explained ” It’s just vulnerability, literally throwing it all out on the table ” adding ” This is what I went through during high school: heartbreak, love, all the clichés – but not necessarily in cliché format. ”
” Location ” was written by Khalid Robinson, Joshua Scruggs, Chris McClenney, Samuel Jimenez, Olatunji Ige, Alfredo Gonzalez and Barjam Kurti. Production for the single was by Syk Sense, Tunji Ige, Chris McClenney, Smash David, Alfredo Gonzalez and Taz Taylor.
The song was released on the 23rd of August 2016 by record label RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and taken as the lead single from Khalid’s debut studio Album, American Teen.
The Album, released on the 3rd of March 2017, debuted on the US Billboard 200 Chart at number nine with sales of 37,000 Album-equivalent units. Pure Album sales made up 12,000 of that figure. In August 2017, American Teen reached a peak of number four, slipping down to number twelve after spending thirty-three weeks on the chart there. On the 24th of October 2017, the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) certified the Album Platinum.
During an interview with Pigeons & Planes music online magazine, Khalid explained about the lyrics of the song: ” ‘Location’ is a story of young love. The kind of love that you would travel all over the country to find. It’s just a story of searching for something that we all want in life no matter who we are and that’s a real genuine lover, but it doesn’t come easy. ”
The accompanying music video was directed by Alex Di Marco. The Los Angeles-based Director graduated from Point Park University with a Bachelor of Arts ( B.A. ) in Advanced Concentration in Film Directing.
He has worked on numerous music videos. Artists Alex has worked with include Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Carson Lueders and Jacob Sartorius, the American singer and internet personality who found fame posting lip-syncing videos on Musical.ly, the Chinese video social network app.
Alex Di Marco has also directed commercials for Disney, Vogue, Lomography and Sony Animations. In 2015, Alex founded HustleCake, the music video-based production company. Collectively, the music videos produced and directed by the company have over 200 Million combined views.
” Location ” has been a commercial success for Khalid. In the United States, the song reached a peak of number sixteen on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, spending forty-one weeks on the chart there.
It also reached number eight on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart, number twenty-four on the Mainstream Top 40 and number four on the Rhythmic Chart.
