” Lollipop (Candyman) ” was released by the record label Universal as the group’s fourth single from their first Album, Aquarium.
The song featured the lead vocals of group member René Dif and Lene ( Lene Nystrøm Rasted ), René opens the song with ” I am the candy man, coming from bounty land “.
Lyrically many believe the song to be of a sexual nature, the lyrics are about oral sex and the accompanying video has references to sex.
Although this song is known to be the group’s favourite songs, Aqua couldn’t match the success of their other songs like the Worldwide hit singles ” Barbie girl “, ” Doctor Jones ” and ” My oh my “.
Although ” Lollipop (Candyman) ” failed to reach the top of the charts as the song’s predecessor ” Barbie girl ” had done, the song was still a hit for Aqua.
In the United States, the song was Aqua’s second release there and entered the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and climbed to reach number twenty-three, with the song staying on the chart for a total of seventeen weeks.
” Lollipop ( Candyman ) was the group’s second single to enter the Top 40, and the last time Aqua would see success on the chart there. Aqua also enjoyed a number twenty-four hit on the US Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart with the song.
Outside of the United States, it had chart success in Europe. The song reached a peak of number twenty-nine in France and stayed on the chart there for a total of fourteen weeks.
In Sweden, ” Lollipop (Candyman) ” reached number ten and stayed on the Sverigetopplistan Chart for thirteen weeks.
