Description: ” London Nights ” is by London Boys, who were a German-based English dance-pop duo consisting of Edem Ephraim and Dennis Fuller. Edem Ephraim was born in London and Dennis Fuller in Jamaica, they met when they were at school in Greenwich, London.
The musical style of the London Boys was a mix of soul and dance music, they also performed in the style of Eurobeat dance music.
The duo were killed, along with the wife of Edem Ephraim, on the 21st of January 1996 on their way to a skiing holiday. The car in which they were travelling was hit by a drunk-driver in the Eastern Alps, Austria. The accident left their three-year-old son without parents and Dennis Fuller’s 10-year-old daughter without a father.
” London Nights ” was written and produced by Ralf René Maué. Ralf is a German musician and music producer. In 1983 he released ” The Emperor of China “, as a single under the name Ralf-René. He became a songwriter and producer of the London Boys from 1989 to 1995.
The song was initially released in 1988, but re-released in 1989 by record label TELDEC ( Warner Music Group ) and features on the duo’s debut Album The Twelve Commandments of Dance. The Album reached number 2 in the UK Album Chart, staying on the chart for 29 weeks. The Album was one of four Albums released by the London Boys, Sweet soul music (1991), Love 4 unity (1993) and Hallelujah hits (1995).
” London Nights ” was a commercial success for the London Boys. In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 1st of July 1989 and reached a peak of number 2. It spent 5 weeks in the top ten and a total of 9 weeks on the UK chart. The song also charted in Finland, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland.
The duo’s later recordings had only small commercial success, however it has been estimated that the London Boys have sold 4.5 million records worldwide.
