“ Lucid Dreams ” is a song that was released on March 13, 2018, by the rapper Jared Higgins, better known as Juice WRLD. Nick Mara produced the song and published it in digital download platform by the reputable Interscope Record which distributes Hip-Hop, Rock and Pop music.
The American rapper/singer and songwriter was born on 2nd December 1922 to a conservative Christian mother from Illinois, Chicago. His mother initially banned the young Higgins from listening to rap music, and he started playing the piano, guitar, and drums at an early age, but being inspired by the 90’s rap legend 2Pac, he pursued rapping as a full-time career in his sophomore years.
The 20-years old musician released several hits on SoundCloud which were also produced by Mara between 2015 and 2017. He gained recognition for his hit song “All Girls Are Same,” which released on April 3, 2018, after the popularity of his EP “Nothings Different” on several hip-hop blogs including Lyrical Lemonade.
“ Lucid Dreams ” was one of the songs that Juice WRLD released on his third EP called 999 on SoundCloud in mid-2017. It gained over 2.5 million plays and eventually released as a single in 2018 for the album “Goodbye and Good Riddance.” The Album reached number 6 in the United States Charts and number 58 in the UK. However, the song debuted at number 92 in the US Billboard Chart and number 74 in the US Billboard Hot 100, earning him many fans and critical acclaims.
The song “ Lucid Dreams, ” co-written by the artist along with Dominic Miller, Nick Mara and Gordon Sumner is 4:00 minutes long whereas the official music video which debuted on YouTube is XX minutes long.
Though there are many fan-made lyrical videos of the song, the official music video for “ Lucid Dreams ’’ was directed by Cole Bennett who is a relative of the rapper from Illinois. It has accumulated over 1 million views on YouTube since its release on May 11th, and by the end of the month, it accumulated over 10 million streams and 4,000 downloads in the US. The psychedelic music video Lucid Dreams feature samples of the song ‘Shape of My Heart” by Sting as the guitar intro, which reverberates in the background. The meter used by the rapper is the standard 4/4 time in F# minor, and the song plays at 84bmp with a mellow, laid-back rap and R&B.
The Platinum-certified rapper composed the song as a way to reinstate his emotional and physical stability during a period when he encountered relationship problems. The lyrics convey the dream-like reality of a heartbreak that haunts him after a failed relationship.
“ Lucid Dream ” peaked at number 3 in the US Billboards charts and New Zealand. It also reached the top 10 in Belgium, Canada, Portugal and within the top 20 in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Norway and Sweden. It also peaked at number 18 in the UK Singles Chart in the same month of its release and drawing in hip-hop, pop and R&B fans of all ages, while the 19 years old rapper continues to defy genre boundaries.
