Charlie came up with the chorus for his debut single easily, sitting in a cafe in Hollywood he found himself tapping out the beat.
Along with a reference to the singer Marvin Gaye, charlie uses another iconic singer by the name of Ben E King in the song, the bass line for ” Stand by Me ” by the late singer in used in the song.
Critics were to be divided over the song, some hailing it as catchy pop song on par with “Uptown Funk” by chart toppers Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. However some music critics were not quite so enthusiastic and branded ” Marvin Gaye ” the second worst song of 2015. Some have even questioned why the Gaye estate hadn’t launched a lawsuit as they did with ” Blurred Lines ” by Robin Thicke.
