” Mirror Mirror ” ( also titled as ” Mirror Mirror ( Mon Amour ) is by Dollar, who were a pop music duo from the United Kingdom. The pair consisted of David Van Day and Thereza Bazar.
David is an English singer, media personality and former member of the 1970s group Guys ‘n’ Dolls, which he left in 1977. In addition to his music career, David had a brief acting career. In 1983 he appeared as a devious handyman in the horror film Compilation Screamtime.
Thereza Bazar is a Canadian-born British singer. She was also in the group Guys ‘n’ Dolls in the 1970s. After David left the group, Thereza was dismissed to keep the balance of the performing couples. As a solo artist, she co-wrote and released one album in 1985, The Big Kiss.
Around the same time, she recorded the theme song for Gotcha!, a comedy-action film which starred Anthony Edwards and Linda Fiorentino. The theme was released as a single in the United States.
Dollar enjoyed success in the late 70s to early 80s with ten of their singles charted within the Top Forty of the UK Singles Chart. Their debut single, ” Shooting Star “, which was released towards the end of 1978, was a slow climber but eventually went on to peak at number fourteen in the UK.
One of Dollar’s biggest hits was a ballad, ” Love’s Gotta Hold on Me “. The self-penned single peaked at number four on the UK chart. Their success wasn’t to last and in 1983, while on a promotional trip in Japan that between David Van Day and Thereza Bazar broke down and David quit.
” Mirror Mirror ” was written by Bruce Woolley and Trevor Horn, who also produced the track. Bruce is an English writer, performer, record producer and composer. His first success as a writer came when Australian group the Studs recorded and released ” Dancing With Dr Bop “.
His first international hit came with ” Video Killed The Radio Star ” by The Buggles, the English, new wave band. The Ivor Novello Award-nominated song was co-written by Bruce with Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downes.
Trevor Horn is an English producer, songwriter, musician and singer. His influence in modern music stretched far and wide during the 1980s, so much so that Trevor is widely regarded as ” The Man Who Invented the Eighties “.
As a musician, he had success with The Buggles, Yes and Art of Noise. As a producer, his work has not only created memorable hits but earned him numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for producing Seal’s ” Kiss From A Rose “. For services to the music industry, Trevor was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire ( CBE ) in the 2011 New Year Honours.
” Mirror Mirror ” was released in November 1981 by record label WEA ( Warner Music Group ) and taken from their third ( and last album ), The Dollar Album.
The album, released in October 1982, featured five singles that reached the UK Top Forty. The Dollar Album reached a peak of number eighteen on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry ( BPI ).
The song was a commercial success for Dollar. In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Singles Chart on the 14th of November 1981 and reached a peak of number four. The single spent five weeks in the Top Ten and a total of seventeen weeks on the UK chart.
