Missing You John Waite

” Missing You ” is by John Waite ( John Charles Waite ), the English musician. John was born in Lancaster, a city and the county town of Lancashire, England.
John first entered the spotlight when he was lead singer with The Babys, a British rock group. The group had success with ” Isn’t It Time “, a Billboard Hot 100 Chart hit in 1977. The Babys signed a recording contract which was the highest ever at the time.
” Missing You ” was written by John Waite, Mark Leonard and Chas Sandford. Mark Leonard co-wrote Terri Nunn’s ” Let Me Be The One ” from her album, Moment Of Truth. He has also worked as a producer with Ratt, the heavy metal band from San Diego, California, USA and Thrash Metal Band, Laaz Rockit.
Chas Sandford is an American singer, songwriter, musician, producer, engineer, studio owner and publisher. Chas wrote ” Talk to Me “, the Stevie Nicks 1985 number four Billboard Hot 100 Chart hit. He co-wrote ” What Kind of Man Would I Be? ” for Chicago, the American rock band.
Production for the single was by David Thoener, Gary Gersh and John Waite. David Thoener began his career in 1974 working as an assistant engineer at the Record Plant in New York City. He later went on to win two Grammys in 2000, Record of the Year and Album of the Year for recording and mixing ” Smooth ” by Santana, which featured Rob Thomas.
Gary Gersh worked as Executive Producer and Management for Counting Crows on their Album Hard Candy. He has also worked with Recover, Eliot Morris and Heart.
” Missing You ” was released on the 23rd of June 1984 by record label EMI ( Universal Music Group ) and taken as the lead single from John’s 1984 album, No Brakes, which was certified Gold on the 4th of September 1984.
The song was written quickly in a bedroom in Los Angeles, California. John said of the writing that he was ” in the middle of a lot of personal stuff. I couldn’t really explain or get the better of “. Lyrically the song describes how he misses his ex-lover, however, in the chorus he lies to himself and denies missing her.
The accompanying music video was directed by Kort Falkenberg III, who also wrote and produced the video. Filming took place in Los Angeles in the summer of 1984.
Many believed the street scene in the video was of New York or London, Kort sought a location in downtown Los Angeles which had ” No Stucco ” on the walls, which would have given away where the video was filmed. His intention was for the scenes to be as neutral as possible and not allow the viewer to associate it with any particular city.
” Missing You ” was a commercial success for John. In the United States, the song reached Number One and held the top position for one week. It spent a total of twenty-four weeks on the chart there.
It was the only song on the Billboard Hot 100 during 1984 to spend only one week at the top, all the other songs that made Number One and spent a minimum of two weeks there.
In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles Chart on the 29th of September 1984 and reached a peak of number nine. It spent three weeks in the Top Ten and a total of eleven weeks on the UK chart.
