Night Fever Bee Gees

” Night Fever ” is by the Bee Gees. The song was written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. Production for the song was by the Bee Gees, Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson.
The song was released as a single by record label RSO ( Robert Stigwood Organisation ) in 1978 and taken from the soundtrack of the movie Saturday Night Fever.
Working on a follow-up to the group’s Children Of The Universe Album in the Chateau d’Herouville in France, Barry, Robin and Maurice received a phone call from the group’s manager Robert Stigwood. He was working on a movie based on an article by Nik Cohn in New York magazine and needed songs, he told them they couldn’t have a script for the film but needed the songs within a fortnight.
Barry, Robin and Maurice handed Robert songs which he could use which included ” Night Fever “, at this stage he didn’t have a title track for the movie he intended to call Saturday Night. After the selection of songs given by the brothers, Robert decided to use ” Night Fever “, combining the two titles the movie became Saturday Night Fever.
The Bee Gees got the inspiration for the string intro to the song from ” Theme From A Summer Place ” written by Mack Discant and Max Steiner in 1959. Keyboardist Blue Weaver was performing ” Theme From A Summer Place ” in session when Barry Gibb heard it; Blue was working on a disco version of the more popular cover by The Percy Faith Orchestra which was a Billboard Number One for nine weeks in 1960.
The movie Saturday Night Fever was a huge success, and the Bee Gees had equal success with the release of the single.
In the United States ” Night Fever ” was a chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for eight weeks replacing ” Love Is Thicker Than Water ” by another Gibb brother, Andy.
The Bee Gees already had another two songs in the Top Ten at the time, ” Night Fever ” entered the Top Ten and gave them their third simultaneous Top Ten, making them the first group since the Beatles to do so.
The single also gave their record label RSO a fifth consecutive Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, giving it a tally of twenty straight weeks at the top.
Outside of the United States ” Night Fever ” entered the charts in the United Kingdom on the 15th of April 1978 at Number One where it spent two weeks. The song spent eight weeks in the Top Ten and a total of twenty weeks on the UK Singles Chart, the song was to be the Bee Gees third chart-topper in the UK.
The double Album soundtrack for ” Saturday Night Fever ” became the biggest selling Album in the World with 30 million copies sold until Michael Jackson would pass that and take the crown for the biggest selling Album of all time with Thriller.
Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb became so associated with ” Saturday Night Fever ” that many people assumed they had appeared in the Movie, they of course never did.
