” No Excuses ” is by Meghan Trainor ( Meghan Elizabeth Trainor ), the American singer-songwriter. Born on the 22nd of December 1993 in Nantucket, Massachusetts, Meghan started singing at the age of six with her father, Gary, at church.
Her first venture into writing music was when Meghan at the age of 11 when she worked on her arrangement of the 1938 song ” Heart and Soul “. The song, composed by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Frank Loesser, was first performed by Larry Clinton and His Orchestra with Bea Wain.
Later, between the ages of 15 and 17, she released three albums. All three contained material that Meghan wrote recorded and performed without outside help. Her debut album, Meghan Trainor, was released on Christmas Day 2009. It gained airplay when radio station WCIB ( also known as Cool 102 and owned by iHeartMedia, Inc ), began playing tracks from the album.
Meghan’s breakthrough came in 2014 with ” All About That Bass “, a track she co-wrote with Kevin Kadish, the American songwriter and record producer. The song went on to reach the top of the charts in fifty-eight countries, becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time.
Her debut album, Title, her first for a major record label, was released on the 9th of January 2015 by Epic Records. It topped the albums charts in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States.
Meghan’s songwriting is influenced by music from the 1950s and 1960s. Her popularity as a recording artist has meant that she has had numerous awards and nominations. These include a Grammy Award, Music Business Association’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year award and two Billboard Music Awards.
” No Excuses ” was written by Meghan Trainor, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Andrew Wells, who also produced this track. Andrew, from Provo, Utah, United States is also vocalist and songwriter for Eidola, a five-piece experimental post-hardcore band and touring guitarist for Dance Gavin Dance, the American rock band from Sacramento, California. As a producer, he has worked with Turmoil, Light Years and 5 Seconds Of Summer.
The song was released on the 1st of March 2018 by record label Epic ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and is taken as the lead single from Meghan’s upcoming third studio album for a major label.
The single, which has been described as an empowerment anthem that addresses sexism, took seven hours to write and record. The composition is a bouncy pop with influences of country music, a return to previous output which fans are more familiar. Upon release, ” No Excuses ” gained favourable reviews from critics, with some praising Meghan’s vocal delivery and catchy chorus.
The accompanying music video was directed by Colin Tilley, the Grammy-nominated American music video director, commercial director and filmmaker. Colin has worked with a variety of artists including Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, DJ Snake, Alesso, Enrique Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Jason Derulo, Rita Ora and Britney Spears.
” No Excuses ” has been a commercial success for Meghan Trainor. In the United States the song reached a peak of number forty-six on the Billboard Hot 100 and to date has spent nine weeks on the chart there. Other Billboard Chart positions are nineteen on the Adult Contemporary, ten on the Adult Top 40, forty-six on the Dance Club Songs and sixteen on the Mainstream Top 40.
In the United Kingdom, the single entered the UK Singles Chart on the 15th of March 2018 and reached a peak of number seventy. To date, the song has spent six weeks on the UK chart.
The single also charted inside the Top Twenty in Argentina, Canada, Croatia, New Zealand, Japan and Sweden.
