” No Matter What ” is by Boyzone, the Irish boy band. The band consisted of Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch. They formed in 1993 after responding to an advertisement for a new boy band; the idea was to find an alternative to Take That.
The song was written and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jim Steinman and Nigel Wright. There was additional production by Franglen & Lupino.

Jim Steinman is an American composer, lyricist and Grammy Award-winning record producer. Along with his work in musical theatre, he has worked with many of the biggest names in music, including Meat Loaf with his Albums Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. He has also worked with Bonnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, Air Supply and Celine Dion.
Nigel Wright is an English record producer. He has worked with a variety of artists such as Madonna, Shakatak, Barbra Streisand, Take That, Sinitta, José Carreras, Michael Ball, Sarah Brightman and Cliff Richard.
Simon Franglen is an English composer, record producer, arranger and musician. He is better known for his work on the film Avatar for which he received Golden Globe and Grammy nominations for the theme song. He was also the producer of ” My Heart Will Go On ” from the film Titanic, his work for that won him a Grammy Award for Record of The Year. His work is included on the list of top-grossing movies and has six Albums of the list of best-selling Albums of all time.
” No Matter What ” was released on the 3rd of August 1998 by record label Polydor ( Universal Music Group) and features on the Albums, Songs from Whistle Down the Wind and Where We Belong.
The musical is based on the 1961 film Whistle Down the Wind, which in turn was based on the novel of the same name, written by Mary Hayley Bell in 1959.
The accompanying music video was directed by Michael Geoghegan; he has worked with the likes of Simple Minds, Lisa Stansfield, Toploader, Robert Miles and Simply Red. It features an African man leaving in a hot air balloon, with the members of Boyzone standing on the ground watching him go. The man drops a small golden cross, which references the Christian theme of the play, Whistle Down the Wind which the song was initially featured.
” No Matter What ” was a commercial success for Boyzone. In the United States, the song peaked at number thirty-five on the Billboard Pop Songs Chart, spending three weeks on the chart there. The song didn’t cross over to the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Singles Chart on the 15th of August 1998 and peaked at Number One, holding the top spot for three weeks. The song spent eight weeks in the Top Ten and a total of sixteen weeks on the UK chart.
” No Matter What ” has sold 1.15 million copies in the United Kingdom and another three million copies worldwide.
