The song was written by Leona Lewis, Richard Stannard, Iain James, Jez Ashurst and Bradford Ellis. Production for the single was by Richard ” Biff ” Stannard, Ash Howes and Leona Lewis ( vocal production ).
Richard Stannard and Ash Howes, along with Julian Gallagher, are part of a music production and songwriting team from Brighton, England known as Biffco. The team have worked with many top artists, including Kylie Minogue, One Direction, Ellie Goulding and Little Mix. They also played a significant role in the rise of English groups the Spice Girls, Five and East 17.
” One More Sleep ” was released on the 5th of November 2013 by record labels RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and Syco ( Simon Cowell’s record label ), it was taken as the lead single from Leona’s fourth studio Album and first Christmas Album, Christmas, with Love.
The Album, released on the 29th of November 2013, was well received by critics, who praised the three original songs featured along with the seven covers. Leona stated that the Album was inspired by Motown music.
However, she felt that she ” wanted to step out of the genre. ” Christmas, with Love was a commercial success. In the United States, it reached a peak of number 113 on the Billboard 200 Chart. In the United Kingdom, the Album reached a peak of number thirteen on the UK Albums Chart. It also charted in Ireland, Scotland and Switzerland.
The accompanying music video was directed by Dominic O’Riordan and Warren Smith. Dominic is a freelance director from London, United Kingdom. He has worked with artists like JLS, Moya, Olly Murs and Little Mix. Dominic has also directed commercials for Heineken, Remington, Nike and Nintendo.
Warren Smith is an English director, who directs documentaries and factual entertainment, commercials and music videos. He has produced, directed and edit content for British TV stations BBC One, Two and Three, ITV1, Channel 4, Five, along with satellite stations Sky Living, MTV and Discovery. Warren has directed music videos for Olly Murs, Little Mix, Il Divo, One Direction, Nicole Scherzinger, Will.i.am. He has also shot commercials for brand names like Virgin and Sony Electronics.
The video features Leona’s boyfriend, Dennis Jauch, the German actor and professional dancer. She said the video ” came from an idea we did a little while ago where a camera crew came into the studio and shot me and my friend just kinda messing around and just in the studio being me .”
” One More Sleep ” was a commercial success for Leona. In the United States, the song reached a peak of number ten on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart and twenty-three on the Holiday Digital Songs Chart.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number thirty-four on the 14th of December 2013, reaching a peak of number three. It spent two weeks in the Top Ten and a total of eleven weeks on the UK chart.
The song also charted in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and South Korea.
