One Way Ticket Eruption

” One Way Ticket ” is by Eruption the 1970s disco group. Originally the song was written by Jack Keller and Hank Hunter and performed by Neil Sedaka.
The song was the B-side to Neil’s single ” Oh! Carol ” an international hit in 1959. Neil never released ” One Way Ticket ” as a stand-alone single. However, the song did reach Number One on the Japanese Singles Chart in 1960 where it was known more widely as ” The choo-choo train song “.
The song came alive with the lead vocals of singer Precious Wilson and became a dance floor filler in the 1970s. She started as the backing singer with Eruption and after the original lead singer Lindel Leslie ( Leslie Johnson ) left, leaving Precious to take the helm.
Eruption was discovered by Frank Farian, who is more widely known as the producer of Boney M and the controversial Milli Vanilli. He signed the group to record label Hansa Records.
With Eruption’s musical style and vocals of Precious Wilson, combined with the influence of producer Frank Farian, the sound had similarities to Boney M. Many people confuse the song and attribute it to Boney M, even today upon hearing ” One Way Ticket ” people will still say the song is by them and not Eruption. Precious Wilson is the legal owner of the name Eruption having trademarked it some time ago.
” One Way Ticket ” was taken from the group’s second album, Leave a Light. Along with the hit single ” I Can’t Stand The Rain ” the group enjoyed success throughout Europe in the late 70s.
The song was released in the United States, where it reached number thirty on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs Chart ( now known as The Dance Club Songs Chart ).
” One Way Ticket ” was to prove commercially successful for Eruption across Europe reaching the Top Ten in eight countries, in Austria, the song entered the Ö3 Austria Top Forty at number twenty-two and climbed to take the top spot, which it held for two weeks in 1979.
In Germany, it reached a peak of number seven and spent a total of twenty-five weeks on The GfK Entertainment Chart.
In France Eruption gained a number four position on the Syndicat national de l’édition phonographique ( SNEP ) Chart.
Eruption also had success in the United Kingdom, ” One Way Ticket ” entered the UK Singles Chart and climbed to reach number nine, the song spent two weeks in the Top Ten and a total of ten weeks on the UK chart.
