Description: ” Only You Can ” is by Fox, who were a mid 70s popular British-based pop band. The band was made up of Kenny Young on Guitar and Vocals, Herbie Armstrong on Guitar, Noosha Fox lead Vocals, Jim Frank on Drums and Percussion, Jim Gannon on Guitar, Pete Solley on Keyboards and Gary Taylor on Bass.
Kenny Young founded Fox in 1974 after a successful career as a songwriter. He wrote or co-wrote songs for many artists including, The Drifters, Herman’s Hermits, The Searchers, Ben E. King, The Shirelles, Ronnie Dove and The Seekers. Kenny co-wrote, along with Arthur Resnick, The Drifters 1964 hit ” Under the Boardwalk “. The song reached a peak of number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and spent 14 weeks on the chart there.
Fox was fronted by Australian singer, Noosha Fox ( Susan Traynor ). Noosha had earlier worked with Kenny by adding backing vocals on his solo Album Last Stage for Silverworld a year before Fox was formed. She was also was in a folk-rock band called Wooden Horse, who released two Albums before disbanding.
Noosha’s image was inspired by Marlene Dietrich, who was a German actress and singer. Marlene is best known for acting the part of Lola-Lola in The Blue Angel, the 1930s film. Noosha wore elegant dresses in total contrast with the the rest of the group’s scruffy look.
” Only You Can ” was released in 1975 by record label GTO Records ( Sony Music ) and taken fron the band’s debut Album Fox. The Album, released in 1975 entered the UK Albums Chart on the 17th of May and reached a peak of number 7. The Album spent 2 weeks in the top ten and a total of 8 weeks on the chart.
The song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 15th of February 1975 and reached a peak of number 3. It spent 5 weeks in the top ten and a total of 11 weeks on the UK chart. ” Only You Can ” also charted in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
