” Peanut Butter Jelly ” is by Galantis, the electronic music production and songwriting duo from Stockholm, Sweden. The song was written by Christian Karlsson ( Bloodshy ) and Linus Eklöw ( Style of Eye ) with songwriting credit given to Phillip Hurtt.
Galantis produced ” Peanut Butter Jelly ” at their studio on the stunning Stockholm archipelago, Sweden’s largest archipelago. The area is popular with Stockholmers who have holiday cottages there. ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson wrote a large proportion of the group’s hit songs in a cabin on the archipelago.
The song was released on the 20th of April 2015 by record labels Big Beat and WMG. It was released as the fourth single from their debut album, Pharmacy.
Galantis heavily samples the 1974 ” Kiss My Love Goodbye ” written by Phillip Hurtt and performed by Bettye Swann ( Betty Jean Champion ). She is best known for her 1967 Billboard Hot 100 Chart hit single ” Make Me Yours ” which peaked at number twenty-one.
The song features uncredited vocals from the Canadian electronic music band Dragonette. The group formed in 2005 and is made up of singer-songwriter Martina Sorbara, bassist and producer Dan Kurtz with Joel Stouffer on drums.
The accompanying music video was directed by Dano Cerny. Dano has directed other videos for Galantis and also for artists including Matt Simons, Tori Kelly and Sidney Samson.
The girl seen at the beginning and throughout wearing roller skates is Jillian Sipkins, now a photographer and podcaster.
The video features two men dressed in black and masks entering a store with the song beginning to play over the PA. In the isles stand bored customers and idle staff, when the music plays they shed their clothes and dance happily to the music. The two men leave, but the party continues with customers and staff getting physical.
Galantis has some success with ” Peanut Butter Jelly “. In the United States, the song reached number forty-three on the Billboard Dance Club Songs Chart and remained on there for one week.
It also reached number eighteen on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and spent nine weeks on that chart.
In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Singles Chart on the 30th of July 2015 and peaked at number eight. It spent three weeks in the Top Ten and a total of thirty weeks on the UK chart.
