Song Title: Pillowtalk
Date of release: 29th of January 2016
Description: ” Pillowtalk ” is by Zayn ( Zain Javadd ‘ Zayn ‘ Malik ), the British singer and songwriter. Zayn was born and raised in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The city grew prosperous during the 1800s during the Industrial Revolution, becoming an international hub of the nation’s textile manufacture. Since the decline of manufacturing, the city has gone on to become the first UNESCO ( United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ) City of Film and a tourist destination.
Zayn had aspirations to pursue a career in music from an early age. In 2010 he auditioned as a solo artist for The X Factor, the British music competition. As a solo performer, he was eliminated but brought back, along with four others to form One Direction, the boy band.
The band were ranked the world’s second highest earning celebrities in 2016 by Forbes. Zayn left the band on the 25th of March 2015.
As a solo artist, Zayn became the first British male artist to debut at the top of the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States with his debut single and debut Album.
The song was written by Zayn Malik, Anthony Hannides, Michael Hannides, Joe Garrett and Levi Lennox, who also produced the track.
Levi is a British hip-hop producer. He co-wrote and co-produced M.I.A.’s “ Borders ”, which reached number ten on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Digital Songs Chart. The song failed to make the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. M.I.A. fared better in France with the single, making number 73 on the SNEP Chart.
” Pillowtalk ” was released on the 29th of January 2016 by record label RCA ( Sony Music Entertainment ) and taken as the debut single from Zayn’s debut solo Album, Mind of Mine. The Album, released on the 25th of March 2016, is a blend of musical styles including pop, folk, dub, soul, funk, electronic, Qawwali, hip-hop, reggae, classical and soft rock.
Although many music genres are explored for the Album, Mind of Mine primarily focuses on R&B and alternative R&B. In addition to debuting at the top of the Albums charts in the US and UK, it also debuted at Number One in Argentina, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Taiwan.
The song, a smooth pop-R&B in the composition, is a move away from the pop influences that were released as a member of One Direction. Lyrically, the song discusses how love and passion can turn suddenly into recklessness. The British newspaper, The Guardian, described the lyrics as ” a theatrical interpretation of intimacy and romance. ”
The accompanying music video was directed by Bouha Kazmi, the London-based award-winning director. Bouha is a graduate of Central Saint Martins ( CSM ), the college of arts and design situated in London, England. Bouha has also directed videos for The Ramona Flowers, Jamie Lawson and MØ.
” Pillowtalk ” was a commercial success for Zayn. In the United States, the song debuted at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, spending one week at the top and twenty-one weeks on the chart there. In doing so, it became the 25th song ever to debut at the top and also makes Zayn the first UK artist to debut at Number One in the US with a first charted single.
In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at Number One, spending one week at the top. It spent eight weeks in the top ten and a total of twenty-eight weeks on the UK chart.
