” Pjanoo ” is by Eric Prydz ( Eric Sheridan Prydz ), the Swedish DJ and producer based in Los Angeles. He is best known for his UK Number One hit single ” Call on Me ” which was also Number One in Germany. The song sampled Steve Winwood’s ” Valerie “, which reached number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1987.
Although the song was popular, Eric has stopped playing it during his sets and has since tried to distance himself from it.
Eric has the labels Pryda Recordings, Pryda Friends and Mouseville Records, which he uses to release material. He also uses different names for some releases like
Cirez D, Fiol Lasse, Moo and Sheridan.
” Pjanoo ” ( pronounced ‘ piano ‘ ) was released on the 25th of August 2008 by record label Pryda and features on Eric’s Album Eric Prydz Presents Pryda. Originally released on the 17th of March 2008 as a promotional track, the song has been available since then as a limited number of 12 inch singles.
The mainstream release of the song was by Ministry of Sound’s subsidiary label, Data Records. The subsidiary runs alongside other Ministry sub labels Sound of Ministry and Rulin Records. Ministry of Sound is a World famous nightclub in London which was founded in 1991 by James Palumbo, his friend Humphrey Waterhouse and DJ Justin Berkmann. The label and catalog of artists are now part of Sony Music Entertainment, who acquired the label outright.
It was while Eric Prydz was playing a set in the Ambasadeur club in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, that the song began to take off after being hidden away and forgotten for some time by Eric. He said of the song’s resurface ” I played it in a club in northern UK in 2006. Didn’t get the reaction I thought I would, so I didn’t play it for years until I found the CD while playing at ‘Ambasadeur’ club in Stockholm. Played it for fun again and it went off. Someone filmed it and it ended up on YouTube. The rest is history “.
” Pjanoo ” was a commercial success for Eric. In the United Kingdom the song entered the UK chart on the 6th of September 2008 and reached a peak of number 2. It spent 3 weeks in the top ten and a total of 15 weeks on the UK chart.
It was used by the BBC Radio 1 station for promoting the network’s ” Radio 1 Big Weekend ” and ” Weekend in Ibiza ” events.
The song was also top ten in several other countries including Belgium, Czech Republic, Ireland, Netherlands and Sweden.
