” Places ” is by Martin Solveig ( Martin Picandet ), the French DJ and record producer. Born on the 22nd of September 1976, Martin got his first taste of performing in front of the public when he joined The Paris Boys Choir.
The choir, also known in his home country as Les petits chanteurs de Sainte-Croix de Neuilly, was created in 1956 by Louis Prudhomme. The choir regularly tour, performing in the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Canada and throughout Eastern Europe. In 2013 they visited South Korea, and in 2016 The Paris Boys Choir performed in China.
Martin later became a DJ, at the age of eighteen he was a familiar face in L’Enfer, Le Queen and Les Bains Douches, three of the most famous nightclubs in Paris.
His debut album, Sur la Terre, released on the 17th of June 2002, failed to chart. However, Martin’s second album, Hedonist, released on the 12th of September 2005, reached number forty-three on the French Albums Chart. As of November 2017, Martin has released eighteen singles as the lead artist, five studio albums and one Compilation album.
” Places ” was written by Martin Solveig and Ina Wroldsen, the Norwegian singer and songwriter, who is a guest vocalist on this track.

For this track’s composition, Martin uses a sample from ” Waiting for a Star to Fall ” by American duo Boy Meets Girl. The duo, consisting of George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, is best known for this song, which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1988.
As songwriters they have had success, writing two of Whitney Houston’s Billboard Hot 100 Number Ones ” How Will I Know ” and ” I Wanna Dance with Somebody ( Who Loves Me ) “. Boy Meets Girl released seven singles from 1985 to 1991, with only two charting in the United States. The accompanying music video was directed by Clayton Vomero, the New York-based music and film director. In addition to music videos, Clayton worked with Dazed on the short youthful hedonism film, GANG.

The song was a commercial success for Martin. In the United Kingdom, the song entered the UK Singles Chart on the 16th of March 2017 and reached a peak of number twenty-seven. It spent twelve weeks in the Top Forty and a total of twenty-seven weeks on the UK chart.
